80s Contemporary Treehouse Exterior Help
Comments (27)@Denitra thank you for coming back and giving such insight! I love your inspo pic you added. I saved it to my file. I will take your advice and only make changes that compliment the nature on my lot. It's funny because all the homes have such muted colors, I never noticed the WHY around that. Thank you again!...See More80's Contemporary needs a facelift to exterior and landscape
Comments (17)Things that would improve appearance and/or function are: Add cheekwalls to the steps so as to keep soil from washing onto them, make lawn maintenance easier, and give a more solid, substantial look to the property. Increase the size of landings above and below the steps. We can't see it, but likely widen the walk that extends left of the door. (There's a good chance the large tree walk is too close to the house.) Raise the canopy of the 'Bradford' pear tree. Dense, dark tree foliage so close to the ground is obstructive to view, yard use below the tree, and looks oppressive. At the right wing of the house, continue the hedge around the side to connect with the main portion of the house. Below the bank of windows and in front of the landscape wall, create a colorful planting of annuals for ongoing display. Around the large tree, create a mound-shape shrub with multi-season interest. Remove the scruffy growth of large tree from in front of the eaves....See MoreUpdating 80s contemporary shed style in Denver
Comments (5)Thank you, Laura, Patricia and Glo! I do agree painting the trim the same as the house to blend in will help bring it more transitional than traditional. Great point! Will definitely be replacing deck railing to metal and front doors to something that brings in light. I love the frosted suggestion to keep privacy. By saying I want to keep the brick, I just don't want to replace it. I am open to painting it, but maybe that is a bad idea? I like to concept of dark charcoal, but the light brick looks a bit jarring against this. Should I look towards a lighter, or white palette for the exterior if I keep the brick as-is? If going with a darker palette, do I paint/wash the brick to be less contrasting? Also, I am still stuck on where I could add some natural cedar siding accents to bring in some nautral color/texture. Would I do this on the right entry wall, the entire entry cove, 270°?...See MoreExterior dark sky compliant lighting to update 80s rustic contemporary
Comments (6)Dark sky compliance is much appreciated by professional and amateur astronomers as well as local wildlife. I suggest picking a compliant contemporary style fixture you love for the front door area, then other fixtures from the same manufacturer's line for the rest. You can search " dark sky lighting site:houzz.com " in google.
