Help with choosing an area rug (color and pattern)

I purchased this ivory and grey 8x10 rug to place in the front room of our house. We just recently moved and have not furnished this space yet. I plan to make it a more formal sitting area. My husband has strong feelings of dislike for this particular rug. I am having a hard time trying to figure out what color and pattern would complement the rest of our house. The tricky part is that our home is open concept, so you can see all 3 rugs (and runner) at once. We have a Persian style runner in the hallway and also a similar rug in the dining room. The cozy living room has a cowhide rug. See photos attached. Any suggestions would be great!! First photo of large ivory and grey rug was taken from the dining room. You can see the living room in background. 2nd photo is living room. 3rd photo is dining room rug. 4th photo is an attempt to capture both the guest room and hallway runner rug.

Is it a stone veneer accent behind the tv? I looked in your ideabooks and only found a chandelier, so I think you could benefit your search if you save what appeals to you - for the house as it is. Personally, I think these colors would complement hide, and others:

Might work with sofas too - esp. if those are your pillows still.

I wanted to put the rug right next to your fabric to see how it looks! :-) I like it! All of the rugs that I posted, except for the braided rug, came from www.selectrugs.com. You'll have to go in and use their search feature -- I was searching under floral rugs and traditional rugs in ivory/beige shades. (I have ordered from Select Rugs and have been very pleased with their service.)

Help. I've searched pinterest and Google and still can't find the perfect pattern and colors to paint/stencil/decal this bench for my son's bedroom. I finally decided on an area rug which is heavy on the primary colors. His bedding is blue, yellow, grey, and black. I like the simple patterns but I'm not sure just painting it a solid color would be interesting enough. My son loves letters and numbers. I'd like to keep it as simple as possible from a DIY perspective. I bought a chevron stencil I would like to use (but I can return it if someone has better suggestions). The bench is currently a light wood which I don't think works with the color scheme (or does it?). I love the idea of easy decals (maybe stars) with perhaps a chevron pattern on top or side. Would this work? Attaching pics of the bench, rug, and bedding. Thanks!

What would it mean if entry had a pretty rug - as to keeping the light one?

the practical mat could be a tan blend in.

What specifically are his objections to the rug? Too light, too faded looking, he wants more color, more pattern? Could you switch it out for the dining room or bedroom rug? What furniture will you have in the room? What colors, etc?

Your suggestions have been so helpful! I purchased this rug in a 9'x 12'

I will be receiving some beautiful traditional antique items that I think we can work with for the space.

Husband loved this particular rug and I am hopeful!!

I can understand why your husband doesn't like the gray rug. All the other rugs are old wool Orientals (except the hide) and the new one is what nylon, polyester and an ordinary on-line/HomeGoods purchase.

Replace it with another with the same quality of the others. It is fine to see all of them at once because it is the style and quality which makes them work together.
