I am just finishing a bathroom renovation, and I am thrilled with the way a floor similar to what you are considering has turned out. I used 8x8 honed bursa beige marble field tiles laid on the diagonal, with a mosaic border of polished Jerusalem gold and afyon sugar (white with some gold), and little 1x1 squares of the Jerusalem gold at every intersection of the beige tiles. When the tiles arrived there was less contrast than I expected between the border and the field tiles, and I panicked, but in fact the whole effect is quite beautiful and subtle, and the polished dots and border sparkle in the light and create some texture underfoot without making the whole of my little 5x8 bathroom look too busy. I have been trying to capture this in photos, but so far I haven't succeeded. (My walls are 4x12 white subways, and beige-colored paint above the wainscot on the toilet side of the room.) When we remodeled our guest bath last spring, I was all into the counter cabinets. But after seeing the interiors of a few, I don't think they provide enough storage for the amount of counter space and budget they hog. I'd limit drawers--because of the drawer box construction and the drawer glides, there's not much space in them. You might consider an appliance garage instead of drawers. However, I mocked it up with boxes and found I couldn't even comfortably move my hairdryer in and out of the garage. Or use an open shelf cabinet if you're willing to store toiletries in decorative containers. Initially I worked with our custom kitchen designer, and he designed a 12" deep recessed cabinet that went 4" into the wall. It was less intrusive on the counter, and I had planned on using a mirrored front to the cabinet to minimize the bulk. I'll attach a photo from Houzz. You can increase vanity storage by adding a drawer at the bottom of the sink cabinets. They're not extremely deep but they can hold a layer of towels or TP. Since you've had stained wood for two decades, I'd do painted cabinets this time. Have you looked on Houzz for inspiration pics? Hi Sandy, I bet you're so excited about the bathroom renovations! It's going to be tricky to fit in space for a linen closet without significantly changing your layout. Maybe adding a linen tower between the sinks in the Master Bath would give you the storage you're looking for. I love bathrooms that are set up like the Kid's Bath. It's great for sharing! My only suggestion would be a pocket door between the shower/toilet area and the sinks. It's a great space saver. Good luck with your renovations!

No wood-look tile! Whatever you do, please do NOT put down fake wood against real wood. It cheapens BOTH products and makes things look awkward. Can you continue the shower tile onto the floor? Is it rated for flooring? If so, then it is possible to use a decorative tile at the base of the tub (I would match the colour to the cabinet) and then start the flooring with the 'shower tile'. I can't see the shower tile, but I'm assuming it is close to the original floor tile. If you absolutely cannot find something that is a decent COLOUR/texture match, then I would sacrifice the cabinet (or paint it...) and put down a darker floor that is the match to the diamond accents in the tub surround. In fact it might be possible to 'invert' the colour scheme (dark main tile with lighter 'diamond' accent). If you do that, you do NOT want a dark cabinet on a dark floor. Sacrificing the cabinet (possibly the counter top as well...but that's another concern) is the cheapest way to get this done. Just keep it in mind - a different (lighter) cabinet colour will offer you more options for your flooring. It could save your sanity.
