Hi all, I would love your advice for fireplace suggestions. The entire thing is going to go. We need to be able to keep the tv. on top. The house is going to be a modern/rustic tree house. My husband and I like this kitchen so I want the fireplace to complement it. The kitchen is open to the family room. We’ve thought about stone but are open to tile, wood, etc. Entry way behind will have tongue and groove ceiling. We really like Heath ceramic tiles but don’t want the house to be too modern. Cozy, rustic, with a touch of modern. One thought is to run tongue and groove vertically up the wall and mount tv on it. We live on the rugged CA coast bordering Big Sur in the talk Monterey pines.

Probably will go with a one big piece of tile for the hearth and same tile for the surrounds of the fireplace. The mantel is still a work in progress, probably will skip it as I can't seem to find "affordable" ones with storage capability unless I build myself which I won't do, and I really don't want to go with one piece mantel at the moment. Any feedback ?

Tv over will look beautiful, but in your space, I would prefer it in the same place with some molding as you said. You also need better lighting in your room and some bright colors in the form of pillows, rug, or art to add some life to your space.

I love wood burning as well and will have them in two spots in the house (outdoor porch and library). I will have a gas fireplace in the living room but would still want it to “look” wood burning like the photo in my original post. I am trying to avoid glass/black frame and was hoping someone could point me to a brand that makes a gas fireplace in that aesthetic. Thank you!

In the early 70's we lived in a rental with a fireplace that had been painted white. What I always recall when people contemplate white is the soot that gathered above the firebox in a semi circle. It doesn't take more than one 'forgot to open the flu' episode to get smoke stains. If painting is the most cost effective--I have like the dark gray painted fireplaces. From other posts, I see people clad the brick in a flat stone..I am sure that costs much more, but it is a beautiful alternative.
