That would be so subjective, depending on your definition of what makes a floor good. - Gentle on the feet? Then try cork, linoleum or vinyl. Or carpet if comfort is key. - Durable? Porcelain can't be beat, but laminates are also pretty good. - Natural looking? Stone or wood, hands down. But cork and linoleum are also natural. - Architecturally Authentic to the period of the house? Wood, ceramic, linoleum or vinyl. - You can see when it's clean? Or would you rather it hide the dirt? - Perfect color to match or complement your other surfaces? Ceramics come in every color imaginable. Once you've really determined what YOUR ideal floor would do, then you can choose.

As long as it will look good with your kitchen cabinets, go for it. We are installing Tigerwood throughout the upstairs, and though I struggled through all the possible choices of a contrasting floor in kitchen, am really excited about having one continuous look. (Wonder what the original owners would think- they had a different flooring in every single room!!) My Mom has Walnut all throughout her main floor including kitchen, and it looks fabulous.

O frabjous day. If I spray it on the joist side of my ceilings, I will never have to stick a broom stick through dripping, sagging plaster again. I can just take up the floorboards or crawl into the attic space with a wet vac. Hallelujah.

The gloss level put together with the colour will create a situation where foot prints show much more than with other options. So....low-gloss finishes will show MORE oil marks (that's what you are seeing...not sweat but skin oil) because skin oils are SHINIER than the floors. The fix: satin or semi-gloss and you can stop worrying about the oily foot prints The DARKER the floors the more you see. The WHITER the floors the more you will see. That means a natural wood colour (like oak, maple, natural cherry, etc) will hide plenty of sins. And if you combine a darker floor with a low-gloss/matte finish then you will suffer the consiquences (they will show ++ dust; look hazy and show skin oils/foot prints). There you have it. If you stick with a moderate gloss level and a moderate/natural coloured wood, you will get away from the dreaded footprints/dusty looking floors.
