Solid Surface Countertops Stain?
Comments (16)I think there are several answers to your question and I will try to tell you in detail about each of them. First, I think you should think about the coverage, because this is probably the most important factor. It's important to prevent the problem before it even occurs, but I think you already know that. I can't think of anything more so than stainless steel. And as I thought about this answer it occurred to me it must be the reason commercial prep kitchens use it so much. Solid surface countertops are synthetic and don't offer the same quality and durability as a natural stone. However, these materials are non-porous and don't stain easily. Certain chemicals and acidic foods can stain these countertops if left on the surface for long periods of time. The second is this immediate caveat: -Stop using acidic cleaners or heavy alkaline cleaning material that can strike and destroy stones. And the third is a solution to the problem. To be honest, I have never encountered such a problem, but after a little searching on the Internet I found an article that might be useful to you: how to remove stain from solid surface countertop To be honest, I do not vouch for the correctness and effectiveness of the methods described there, but personally to me it seemed the most correct and logical solution to the problem, so I recommend that you read this article and draw your own conclusions. I hope my comment was helpful and you can clean the surface without any problems....See MoreSolid Surface countertop brands and cost
Comments (5)I was told that Corian was more expensive; however, in my neighborhood labor is the driving factor and all the prices came out within $10 of each other. Knowing what I know now, the only thing that I would do differently is to purchase a Corian that does not have a grain to it (I have witch hazel). When there is no grain there are no problems if you need a repair and the seams don't show. No repairs needed yet. So far it has been completely trouble-free and so much quieter, warmer and easier to maintain than the dark granite that I have on either side of the stove. I bought used kitchen cabinets and those cabinets surrounding the stove came with their granite intact. If your stove is on a different wall, I would consider a different surface by the stove as other people (darling husband for instance) have a tendency to pull hot pans right off the stove on to the countertop by the stove and I understand that Corian (all quartz and some granites) do(es) not hold up to heat. I would absolutely install Corian again....See MoreDurat solid surfacing countertop?
Comments (2)Durat has been one of THE most popular countertops in Europe for over 20 years. They are non-porous, extremely durable, super-easy to clean, AND they come in bright, gorgeous colors - unlike the drab, drabber, and drabbest granite, quartz, and quartzite stuff. You simply can't go wrong with Durat, as millions of Europeans can confirm....See MoreMitred vs laminated edge for kitchen countertop
Comments (2)"My question is: Is it possible to do a mitred edge on a countertop that already has a laminated edge?" No, not practically, especially with a stone with movement as you have. Those mitered edges have to be planned for before the first cut is made. That cutout appears to have 90* inside corners. If so, you're out of warranty. That, in combinztion with your stacked edge and mismatched waterfall mitered end, make me think your fabricator is completely clueless....See Moremcarroll16
