Maybe show us the tile you are thinking of. IMO marble look quartz was a bad choice and IMO not MCM at all so more info from you will get you more help.

I don't really have anything in mind yet which is why I'm asking for photos of what others have done.

Mcm with marble and teak seems pretty common. Not what I'm going for here though. 

One tile I like is the kiln ceramics wedge. Not sure how to get a photo of it. I'll have to post it when I do.

For mid-century flair, maybe think about a terrazo-style quartz. That fits the period better, and gives you a more neutral background for your tile design.

I'm not sure if I can edit my post but please don't focus on my mid-century comment. That is truly a bonus and something I think could in theory be done with the right materials/design.

Also in regards to 'marble-look', that's my term for anything in the light white or grey family that has veins or swirly movement - ranging from very subtle to bold. Pretty much covers all quartz aside from the terrazzo, solids  and obvious granite looks.

Here are combinations I think are unique and attractive.

I used this marble backsplash with a Cambria Britannica counter. Some would argue against mixing quartz and marble or that the patterns clash, but I love it.

If you are looking for mid-century backsplash options, you should check out modwalls.com

It's not a cheap option($35/sq ft+) but you can get any color and pattern you want including edge pieces, and with most backsplashes being only 30-50sq ft of tile needed you're still only talking $1,000 of material for the ability to absolutely customize the geometry and look.

I've used them twice now and I was very happy with the quality.

@Super Lumen yes, thanks, I did see them! That's where I saw the 'wedge' tile. Most of that stuff is too bold into the mcm look, but the wedge and a couple other patterns have potential. I'm in Canada though and currently they don't ship here. I'd have to use some sort of PO box option and go pick up, and I'm not that close to the border so not super keen on going that route yet.

You said you're in Canada. If you're in the GTA, there are lots of tile shops in Toronto, Vaughn, Woodbridge that have amazing selections.
