Chandelier in living room w/8ft ceilings?
Comments (20)Thanks SOOO much for all the feedback, and I'm sorry that I hadn't come back to this post till now. You all raised really helpful issues for me to consider, but I have to say that I still haven't firmly decided what to do. I'm probably at 75 percent in terms of keeping the fixture - it just feels like it goes with the room. I think I'm satisfied that most of the concerns are manageable. For example, I've tested and it doesn't block the TV, and we have had a coffee table directly below the junction box in every configuration of the room since we moved here a decade ago, so I think it's reasonable bet that this will stay under any future layout. In terms of the kids, I have 2 boys who are the types who are constantly bouncing off the walls, so it's not inconceivable that they might hang off the ceiling - but they are old enough to know better and tall enough that if they were going to do this, they probably already would have! They have a Wii and don't seem to jump a lot, and if that begins to happen I would probably move the Wii to our (tiny) playroom instead. My real remaining uncertainty is just whether it looks goofy, like lipstick on a pig. I don't think so, but I'm obviously biased. And I don't really trust my own judgment after a couple of botched decisions on this sort lately (our kitchen reno should have been done except that I picked a totally nutty contractor, who thankfully walked away.) SO I'm going to stew about it a bit longer, see if I can find a semi-flush fixture that I like (at least one that isn't $500 and up, which seems to be the case for all the ones like), and give it a week or two of more consideration. Thanks so much for all your really helpful comments!!...See MoreQuestions re: installing a linear light fixture with a sloped ceiling
Comments (10)David, those instructions are for general installation of this fixture. Nowhere, that I could see, do they specifically mention sloped ceiling adjustments. You must be saying that the additional chain links are added on each side of the underside of the canopy plate and then attach to the threads for each rod and then the canopy mounts to the ceiling, no? If this is incorrect, hopefully all will be clear once the fixture arrives. The bottom line is that all should be well with the appropriate professionals involved, whereas before I was hesitant to place an order. By the way, thanks for the warning to use a solid structure for attachment at the ceiling. One last question, do you have a recommendation whether the smaller or larger 3 light fixture would be the most appropriate size? There is room for either with a 12 ft. vaulted ceiling. My table top is a 38" wide x 60" long rectangle . The smaller chandelier is 7.75"w x 31.25"l x 18"h. The larger is 11.5"w x 40"l x 23"h. The room is small. Once, again, thank you for all your time and assistance....See Moreneed help with lighting up the living room ceiling 16ft ceiling height

Comments (138)LOL @Flo Mangan yes for sure it’s scary in that picture!! IRL I’d not just leave it on in the dark by itself like that - just to show how tall the effect is (more gravitas to balance that built in)..... when the console lamps are on, the effect is quieter and didn’t photograph. Agree, about not filling every space. It starts to feel busy. I like it calm but don’t want it to look sparse. It is a good start and not sure when or how I will do more. You know how hard it is when you move and have a million things to do and get. I don’t think they are wrong about the console not being long enough, but just tossing it out and buying something new isn’t how I roll. It’s different and I like it. If you see the right pillows (or lamps for that matter), I’d love your input. If you see my inspiration photo in the original post, it’s a light room, and I don’t want to kill that mojo. Wish I had a decent camera to show that the room isn’t dark at all....See MoreRelated Professionals
