Comments (15)Kate: In winter when we do this alphabet listing I always wonder why I didn't get more pictures of such and such. The reality of bloom season is somewhat romanticized and the realities ignored. Like the constant wind, the rain, the hot sun, the other time consuming chores that also have to be done before picture taking can commence. So it was with Wayah Valley last season. I managed to get one good picture of it which I showed under Debra's red daylily header. I had two pots of it and lost one to the arctic blast of Feb. 2021, and now I'm hoping the other pot will survive this Februarys cold bout of arctic freezes. How has your weather been this winter? Any serious cold snaps that worried you? Oh and yes, here is a repeat of Wayah Valley Pic. It's such a good one. It's one I always recommend Wayah Valley: Maryl...See MoreX, Y and Z daylilies 2022
Comments (15)Coming late to the party again. We just got back from the ADS region 2 Winter Symposium. We had a good time, especially after my job was done. I was the registrar for the event. I think that those of us who are hybridizers need to focus on names that start with X, Y, and Z so that we have more to post in this section. The X might be hard to come up with, but Debra has done her part with Zuzu's Treasure. Beautiful! I must admit none of my pictures are from 2021, but I wanted to post something. Yauhannah Lake performs very well for us. You're Fired is a great grower. Zombie Dust often is inconsistent in pattern, but it's a big flower that is a little diffferent from so many other patterns that seem to have a rather muddy lavender petal color. It was hybridized by a friend in Indianapolis. That's all for me. Nancy...See MorePink Daylilies From the 2022 Season

Comments (23)Yellow is a wonderful garden color, but many collectors, as well as the average Joe, shy away from it. People aren't likely to spend big money for a yellow intro--certainly not dealers, because yellow generally doesn't sell. Bill Norris is certainly worthy of its awards, and a nice earlier one. There have been years though when it was subpar (rough winter or late spring freeze). This year wasn't a great year here. I see that Yellow Cockatoo is a Chad Bush. Anything that starts opening the night before and is earlier blooming gets chewed up here by earwigs. Small World Fire in the Hole is especially bad, and I wouldn't trust Lunar Empire in my home garden. Earwigs are less of a problem elsewhere. Stone Beacon is very showy at the Urgent Care garden. Butter Cream is certainly at least 28 inches here. A superior cultivar in hue as well as texture. Its bud count last season was better than usual here. Boney Maroney had better bud count than in previous years. Whistler's Sister has proven to be a keeper. Thelma Douglas has a crowded scape. Someone in the South claims that never happens with his plant. A bit short here also. The last few years, I have been delighted with the later performance of Caramel Glaze, a Munson. Creped texture and shading are appealing. The Goldilocks Effect was a standout last season. Lemon Lime Radiance blooms over a long time. The greenish cast and large glowing flower I find appealing. In a very sunny part of the garden, so difficult to photograph with its light yellow and green color. Shorter. Mister Butters blooms abundantly in the early garden. Oops, another of The Goldilocks Effect. Look at that texture! Planet Claire is a nice Hanson yellow, also with texture in the veining. Big bloom. Be Here Now is a mellow yellow later bloomer. Also a Hanson....See Moreperen.all Zone 5a Ontario Canada
