Comments (15)Kate: In winter when we do this alphabet listing I always wonder why I didn't get more pictures of such and such. The reality of bloom season is somewhat romanticized and the realities ignored. Like the constant wind, the rain, the hot sun, the other time consuming chores that also have to be done before picture taking can commence. So it was with Wayah Valley last season. I managed to get one good picture of it which I showed under Debra's red daylily header. I had two pots of it and lost one to the arctic blast of Feb. 2021, and now I'm hoping the other pot will survive this Februarys cold bout of arctic freezes. How has your weather been this winter? Any serious cold snaps that worried you? Oh and yes, here is a repeat of Wayah Valley Pic. It's such a good one. It's one I always recommend Wayah Valley: Maryl...See MoreNoid daylilies 2022
Comments (5)Sherry, your noid is very pretty! Kate, those are nice yellows too. It's pretty hard to identify the yellows--so many of them. Like Kate, we don't obsess about the names of the Noids. If we like them, we keep them. If not, we sell or give them away. Many gardeners don't care if they have a name. Our first Noid came from the Region 2 Summer Meeting back in 2015. It was a tiny little fan that broke off a bigger fan. We took it. It seemed to bloom late for us (it was very small then), but now it doesn't. I believe it might be Janet's Magic. We give the Noids a garden name. This is Region 2 Orphan. I have posted this before. Somebody on the forum thought it is Opera Elegance. We call it PC Yellow Red. PC are the initials from the person we got it from. It's a nice daylily and will stay in our garden whether or not it has a name. Since we even breed with it, if I can track down Opera Elegance, I will buy it and compare the two. We bought the last name with no name. It is a late blooming tall and small diploid. The seller thought it might be Hungarian Paprika Late. It's just new so I don't have many pictures of it. I have a couple more of which one is a beautiful red, but I don't have a picture of it. If I find one, I will post it. It's a modern one. The seller sent it instead of the one we asked for. The name he gave us doesn't seem to fit. Nancy...See MoreBest Budded Daylilies of 2022
Comments (15)Sherry - I was looking at this thread again and noticed your comment about daylilies with fewer scapes having more buds. This is something I've really noticed since I've been hybridizing. My seedlings tend to have more buds the first two-three years they bloom. Once they grow into large clumps, the bud counts go down. I think that's a good reason to divide large clumps into smaller divisions. Debra...See MorePink Daylilies From the 2022 Season
