I've checked out their site and love what they have to offer. I'm looking into the Lapa from Modern. I wish I could find a place so I could see them on display. If I am putting fans in both bedrooms and one in the dining area, do they all have to be the same? I would guess not, correct? So you are happy with the quality of the fan then?

I recommend fan / light combo's. I am addicted to fans, while my husband is a big "overhead light in the middle of the room" guy. If you have 8' ceilings, take care where they are placed with relationship to the bed. If you have kids who jump, or while making the bed, light / fan could be damaged because the combo does take up a fair amount of space coming down from ceiling. Please do not consider what you see "in the stores" to be anywhere near what the market bears. And fan quality of those could give you big headaches down the road. We are in NoVA, and completed our construction late 2011. We dealt with Dominion Electric (I just looked, they have store near you (Laurel & Baltimore). I highly recommend. Our rep here was honest, and made recommendations based on our needs, and budget, also steered us away from companies who might be having issues just now, or parts / warranty issues in future. We found that one of the big box stores carried same line of lighting. We ordered sample from one of the BB stores, so we could just see it, and return it. Later, when we ordered the actual piece to be installed in our home, we found that D.E. prices were actually lower than the big box. So don't think they are higher. Plus, if you are building, there might be 'builder's discount', but you should ask on that. dominionelectric-dot-com. I do not work for them. But we found that of all the vendors during home construction, these were in top 3 of being wonderful to deal with, issue free, and honest. Good luck!!

blgamett I recommend you take a look at Hansen Wholesale. Their website is by far the best I've used if you're trying to find a fan that meets a specific set of requirements. You can filter fans by type of light kit, and then sort the results by price and/or light output. Hopefully you can find something that provides adequate light that still like the look of. They have pretty much all the major showroom brands in their catalog. Look for a fan with a large motor (188mm or above) or a DC motor for the best airflow. As for noise levels, Casablanca's non-DC fans tend to be quieter than other manufacturers' non-DC fans, although a DC fan from any manufacturer will be extremely quiet.

Fantech makes such a unit. The blower can be located anywhere so the height of the ceiling should not be a challenge. I would reach out to Fantech and confirm the specs. My Panasonic is the whisper warm unit which does not look like a recessed light but fits in a 2x6 ceiling easily. Good luck!
