My subfloor is not slab so I can do either. I had originally thought of doing solid, so I could refinish them, but I have a budget of $5/SF and this Bruce solid is the only one in my budget that is 5 inches wide. Alas, reviews of their solid floors seem quite poor, although I have not read any reviews specifically of their Kennedale line, which the store salesman tells me is very high quality. I have read that the engineered is better for wider planks. So that is one consideration. I also read that the Shaw finish is very durable and scratch resistant. I am hoping to buy a Roomba and have that sweep up every day, keeping dust to a minimum. The darker wood really sets off my white cabinetry well, somI prefer to go as dark as I can allow. Doesmany one own a Roomba and can speak to how well those work?

I realize this is an old post but wondered what you ended up going with? Considering 3" hardwood to replace carpet/tile/4" wood foyer and wondering if you are happy with your choice or if could share a picture?

I realized i don’t have Mohawk Floors i have Mirage Floors. i am sorry for my confusion. it has been awhile and i did look at Mohawk but was concerned about the quality so I went with Mirage which had better soecifications and were a bit more expensive. When I bought my floors, the Mohawk comparable were $5 per square foot and the Mirage were $8 per square foot. And what was important to me were the specifications. As I recall, the wear layer was more than 2 MM but it has been 3 years at this point. I wasn't really that concerned with the wear layer per se because I wouldn't refinish the floors anyway because dealing with the logistics of sanding and refinishing would be impossible in my condo. But as I wrote, I assumed that a company with a higher wear layer probably was better in other respects. I also felt positive that they were a Canadian company employing what they said were "green" harvesting and manufacturing techniques.
