How to tile this wall!

Less is more. I would use one of them as an accent. Easiest would be to use the same size for the field tile but subway is more current.

Thank you. My home is a 1920’s Spanish revival home. I’m not sure I understand your suggestion. Or perhaps I didn’t ask my question properly. Should I use 4 by fours or 6 x 6?

So sorry, now I see the reason for the confusion. I posted the pictures with the two tiles I was constantly. The first photo with the four tiles together is what I’ve decided on.

I would figure out which dimension lays out better on the wall. You don't want to end up with an odd sliver on the ends, for example.

I would fill the space between the vanity top and the mirror (or maybe a couple inches up the mirror on either side), not the whole wall.

If there is any uneveness in the wall that would be obvious because of the pattern, a solid color tile, maybe the black of the patterned tile, could be used as a narrow border.

Oh, I would definitely tile behind the toilet if you have the opportunity rather than use it just behind the vanity top.

So , nothing above the blue line?

Here is the entire wall using the tile size in the picture. I might try the 6" tile and see how it plays out. I would not chop the wall up starting and stopping the tile, I would do all or nothing.

I need this program.
I see that i like it but feel it needs a chair rail (or back splash)?? Here is a border which matches it.
Should I use this or a solid liner?

Thick tile like that has an issue with toilet rough in compatibility. If you have a 12” rough in, you may have to move down to a 10“ rough in toilet toilet. You have to measure 3x for interferences with other things. Like the vanity being pushed forward into door trim. Window trim incompatibility. Etc.

I agree you will have to make sure that it fits behind the toilet. You may be able accomplish this by using a thinner cement board on that wall to compensate for the tile. Where I live it is usually standard to leave a bit of space behind the tank rather than having the tank too tight to the wall behind it, so there is often some leeway for tile. Your area may vary.

With that tile, more is more. Be sure to post finished photos. :)

Keep in mind that the chair rail will stick out further than the tile and could also possibly interfere with the toilet tank or faucet location if the rail is above the countertop height. Do they make a Flat black tile in this dimension? Also think about what happens to the pattern when you add something of a different width into the mix. You don't want it to result into a sliver of the pattern around the edges.

Does this tile have solid tiles in the jade or one of the cream colors? Perhaps you could colorblock the bottom third in solid with either that rail or a simple pencil in black.

Therese, there is a matching teal color. I really like your idea.
This is the least interesting room in the house and really wanted a wow factor when the door is open. This wall is the first thing you see when you open the door.

If I use the color block theme and the black pencil rail. Should I use the decorative border at the top?

Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss. This is no time to be timid!!

As I mentioned we experienced a fire that is why my photos of the room look so bad. If you look closely you can see the black soot on the walls. We are waiting to hear back from the insurance company as the washer and dryer will mostly likely need to be replaced so I don’t want to start work. But I for sure will start ordering the tiles, new light fixture etc.
Which leads me to my next question ? Any thoughts or ideas on a mirror??? The medicine cabinet will be removed.

Kathy, I agree! Bathrooms are the perfect place to jazz up with tile. They have little room for wall art and no upholstery or other places for much decor. Plus tile is functional as well. I used bold cement tile on our two main bathroom floors and love it! I don’t even care if a potential future buyer will. Here they are. I encourage everyone to be brave and go bold in those rooms, and laundry rooms too for similar reasons. No need to live with boring utility rooms.

Ps, take some inspiration from those ‘50s bathrooms that used the border tiles, etc. I’m sure you can find plenty of images. They used those accent pieces everywhere. Even framing around plate glass mirrors, lol. (Not sure I’d recommend that, though 😉)

Art deco baths used a lot of the patterned tile trim pieces as well, probably even better than the '50s. Bold tile is good.

😂 yes. It was there from when our kids were young. When I demo’d it and getting ready to do this blue& white, our grandson said “ Mémé, I like those clouds, I want you to keep them” so they stayed, lol.

Yes - the deco tiles are the ones I meant. I guess they are earlier than 50’s

Sorry to hear about the fire. It’s very traumatizing. So is restoration. The upside is the fun of the new things like that pretty tile. I’m not sure about other ideas. Function is definitely a big deal. Storage too. I just got this rack. It is great for hanging this up as I take them out of the dryer. It has a good weight load. Very sturdy. There are other similar ones in different sizes.

I have discovered a more comfortable location for the TP holder on the wall between the vanity and toilet. It seems weird, but it’s easier to reach backwards than to the side where it’s usually mounted on the vanity. Find your best location by sitting on toilet and reach back with a post it note to the wall.

I have the same drying rack as you. Or, I did have and will have to order another.
I’m thinking I have enough going on with the tile. But, do you see away to add another border? Or, it’s great as is?
How about a mirror-any suggestions?
