Counter tops for extra long island (seam or change of material)?
Comments (20)ugh.... we are just at this point now and realized that our new counter/breakfast bar is 12' with the sink cutout dead center. My wife is stuck on an undermount and we really wanted granite... we will, of course, be getting a few fabricators to bid it. But is it feasible to do the seam with a cutout at the seam? The front edge of the sink seems a bit vulnerable to me. Also the current layout has the dishwasher adjacent to the sink and I guess we'd need to get the cabinet built with a support at the seam. If we can seam at the sink it would be small, just the length of the front setback (breakfast bar transitions to countertop there)... how well does the bullnose normally line up on a seam? Do they polish it on-site? Are we better off getting used to NOT granite? The 12' counter is not negotiable in our design....See MorePlease help choose Colors/Stain Gray Cabinet Butcher Block Counter top
Comments (6)I would love to see how it turned out. We're doing a very similar renovation. So far our walls are alabaster and we've only purchased lower cabinets. I painted them Mindful Gray (BM). We just purchased our counter tops yesterday and they are unfinished butcher block. So now I'm panicking on what stain to use on them (our floors are Allen + Roth Russet Oak Laminate). I don't want the floors & counter tops to be too matchy and I'm considering just oiling them without staining. So many decisions!...See MoreFantasy Brown Granite+SW Alabaster Cabinets+Subway tile color?
Comments (9)You need samples before you select. I would suggest you try these: Very inexpensive and great soft white tones. https://www.houzz.com/projects/1292813/tongue-in-chic-collection http://www.alysedwards.com/collections/31/tongue-in-chic Try "Don't be Shell Out" and "I think I'll Bisque it" colorways. These have a great hand cut appearance at an incredibly palatable price. Use a one third off set install, they are 2. 5 x 10 inches. Comments (8)I'm glad your friend is not going totally 1950's Retro with sparkly Formica countertops with metal rims, with ribbed vinyl inserts! Of course, in the 50's all appliances would have been white, but I do love that big red refrigerator. I inherited my parents 1943 GE refrigerator when we bought our first house in 1969 and spray painted it Avacado Green! I would use Glacier White Corian for the countertop, and do consider an integrated Corian sink. I have the Number 881 huge single sink and I adore it - best kitchen sink I've ever had and I've now had it for nearly 16 years....See MoreLori A. Sawaya
