My two cents.....why not get a panelled frig to match your cabinets. "Some" black appliances will look real nice. However, to me frigs in black look big scary and dominating. I feel like they are ready to charge,trample and pack me inside to keep me quiet. I think black refigerators are jealious of beautiful kitchen cabinetry and want all the attention. If you have a big screen tv from the late eighties there is always the risk of them taking off with each other in the middle of the night. If the refrigerator becomes PG you will have thousands of large original cell phone parts in gray at your door step. Do you really want this responsibility? No offence to those who have black refrigerators, my two cents is just that. All your kitchens are gorgeous! Can't help my frig weirdness ....sorry.

Bev and justgottabme are on the same wavelength I am -- rearrange the furniture and get a rug that pulls in the colors in your art. I would try to get rid of the three small media pieces and look for a single larger entertainment piece or grouping. The smaller pieces (esp the smaller on and the TV stand) are too small for the scale of the leather pieces. Having three units creates a more cluttered look and feel when you want furnished and functional. They say the resale shops and craigslist see a lot of armoires and entertainment units -- go look for one that is anything but black and be willing to paint anything that is black or dark wood. If you paint, again, pull out one of the colors from the art. IKEA eould be another possibility. If you look for an ottoman or coffee table, I'd look for metal and glass or color. Color can be paint or fabric -- a print or solid color ottoamn. Replacing light fixtures is farily easy and need not be expensive, but I'd get your furniture placement and other things settled first so you know what height and other considerations need to be made. And add at least one or two lamps. Then you can decide whether you want toss pillows or a throw. For me, that kind of sofa doesn't call for toss pillows. A throw might be nice to have in the room. After you rearrange, If you have blank walls, go to Marshalls, Home Goods, Pier 1, World Market, resale shops and look for mirrors, framed or wrapped art -- bring in some light metallics or repeat or compliment the colors in the larger art piece you already have. Resist the temptation to try the decals. Florals and butterflies aren't going to play well with that leather. Your best bet is going to be looking for a modern, transitional to somewhat eclectic mix, even some MCM or arts and crafts -- those simpler lines to balance the heavier feel of your leather pieces but with enough strength and structure that they still hold up to them too. Does that make sense? It's almost go bold or go home -- and the butterflies and florals aren't bold. Tree trunks could provice a backdrop. A graphic that suggests wallpaper (saw a crysanthymum that was like a medallion repeat), a cityscape, -- there are possibilities -- just not the viney floral and butterfly.

I think for this and everything, you should help them grapple with how much social media is designed to grab your attention with high impact, high conflict kinds of ideas. Even worse than TV considering how small the screen is of a phone, etc. I seriously don't think this is having a very good impact on people's lives, and I think children should be encouraged to limit their time on social media and live more of real life. I've been involved in social justice almost all my adult life, for me it is more than the meme of the day, and I would hope it would be so for my kids and the kids I mentor. Also hopefully you are living your values so your kids can work through this with you as you are coming to terms with it too. I grew up with race riots happening around me, this is nothing new but no less sad. I had my consciousness raised in the 1960's and what was on TV was awful then too. I still managed to come out of it with passion and hope and that was probably due to my parents encouraging me to reach out to people of different faiths and cultures, and to just be a nice person, period. I was trained to be a "mensch" by my grandparents, which meant to be a nice kind person, despite what was going on around me. The world is full of mensches too, kids need to be made aware of that. All that negative drama is very toxic, I would work pretty hard to keep it out of my home. I know SO and I have to work at it, to not become angry and jaded.

I really like it, especially with your very 'airy' plant. All 3 objects give one the feeling of 'floating'. Like magic! It makes the oversized electronic, look like it's in a home setting. Very nicely done. Couldn't be any nicer. Now, look for all those with the giant 'entertainment with a bridge' armoires or wall shelving be putting them up on resale websites, so they can lighten the load in their tv rooms... LOL
