Vanity Backsplash

We are remodeling the master bathroom. We are keeping the vanity which will be painted. The current vanity countertop and 4” matching backsplash will be removed. The countertop will be replaced with a piece of black granite that has light grey and white veins. This was leftover from our kitchen remodel. We are having difficulty finding a 4” backsplash that will look great with the granite. Unfortunately, there was not enough granite leftover to have a seamless backsplash. It has been suggested that maybe you don’t need the 4” backsplash anyway. Behind the vanity is the painted wall. So, the comments I’ve read recommend a backsplash to protect walls from mold and mildew. Is it really necessary? Can you get away without the backsplash? Thank you!
