Sweet!

I see deer and other assorted wildlife almost every day out in the cut corn field behind my house. Lately a group of tom turkeys have been coming into the yard to feed under our bird feeders. One of them is even bold enough to climb up onto our deck to clean up under one feeder. They have learned that if they bump the feeder poles more feed will fall out.

The deer do a lot of cleaning up under our feeders too. The last 3 nights the deer have nearly emptied the heated bird bath. Temperatures have barely gotten out of the teens daytime and below 0 at night for several days. I guess they are thirsty and finding water to drink is difficult for them.

I have a couple bird feeders on a pole about 15 ft from my living room window. I bring them in at dusk and put them back out in the morning because deer come during the night and knock the down so the seed spills out for them to eat. I'm not real fond of deer. They would decimate my vegetable garden before I started using a fence around it.

There are a lot of deer here, including a white doe. At one time, I was told there were three...a white buck and two does, but someone killed the buck. I think this doe is the only one left. She had twin fawns last year, but they are both the normal color of a white tailed deer. I think there would need to be a gene from a buck as well, for her to produce a white fawn. They are in my pasture almost every evening and come up to a water trough to drink and lick a salt block there. I am happy to see her here because they are safe on my property, but it backs up to the national forest, and there is a pond right across the fence from me, and I saw that someone had set up a deer blind there, so I am always glad to see that she made it another year, and hope she will continue to stay on my property. She comes with a little group of six. I know that my neighbors are just as protective feeling about her as I am. Sometimes she crosses the road beside me and goes to another person's place, and he feels like I do....glad she made it to another year.

We get mule deer here. They come to our back birdbath for drinks, which I love. But we do have to continually spray the non-evergreen trees close to the house so that they don’t strip them bare.

Our small suburb is overrun with deer (this suburb is completely surrounded by metropolitan Columbus, and bounded by freeways on 3 sides, but does have the river and several creeks in ravines running through that are more natural areas.) I frequently see them in groups of up to a dozen, assaulting all of the landscaping around neighbor's houses. In winter they will browse small trees back to nubs of branches and damage bark. We can't have gardens without fencing. They aren't all well fed either, there are just too many for the area, but no authority is inclined to reduce the herd even though they have done so in nearby metro parks.

This one jumped my 7 foot fence then was trying to get at my netting-enclosed blueberry bushes. He started the collapse of the frame.

Deer and turkey here everyday.

Thankfully we don’t have deer here, but if we did it’d be tempting to hunt quietly. Surprised that isn’t more of an issue where they’re a nuisance. Or maybe it is and no one cares. 🤤
