Winter Sowing Event Saturday Jan 17, Redmond, WA
Comments (3)If you are in the Puget Sound region, you are invited to a Winter Seed-Sowing Saturday, January 17, 1:00-3:00 PM. Church of the Holy Cross 11526 162nd Ave NE Redmond, WA 98052 Driving Directions I have a big bag of seeds gathered this fall. Many of you have seeds too. January is a good time to winter sow perennials for spring germination. If you have never tried winter sowing, you will be amazed at the good results. It has to be the easiest way to fill your garden with new plants. You can bring spent poinsettias for sowing. Just cut off the top and sow your seeds on the poinsettia soil. I have plenty of 4-inch pots, and a large container of sifted compost. Bring whatever other pots and seeds you'd like to try. This is an indoor event. We'll meet in the parish hall of the church. So no freezing in the rain! Questions. Comments. Jim Eichner GreenElephant 425-223-7249 Cell...See MoreHelp! Expectations betwn grower and chef for special event dinner
Comments (4)I had a similar thing happen (at least we weren't hosting it). Local Historical Society wanted me to supply jams, jellies, pickles, etc. for Tavern Night (mid-19th century), I helped plan the menu and bought 10 lbs of pork roast (just a taste for 50 people) and then we got hit with a freak snowstorm, everyone lost power for days (we kept the freezer running with a generator) and the event was canceled. All the pickles were in the fridge, I didn't can them since the event was only a week or so away from when I was harvesting my peppers. We ate a LOT of pickled peppers for a while (and pork roast more than a few times over the winter). Just got notice they've rescheduled for June 8. I still have the jams and jellies, but have market so said I can't help that night (though I did help them revise the menu to a more seasonally-appropriate one), they'll have to pick up the jars earlier. At least they said they'd put out placecards with the flavors (and ingredients in case of allergy) when they dish them out (if I make up the cards, and I'll make sure I put my farm name on them), and I can stop by after market. Who knows, maybe I can sell some more out of the back of my truck LOL! But at least you didn't get stuck with a lot of perishable produce....See MoreWhat's for dinner Saturday?
Comments (20)Rhizo, hope you're finished in time for the movie. Those kabobs sure sound yummy! YogaLady, does that mean we won't see your sweet self for a few days? If so, have a wonderful time but if you'll have access I look forward to hearing about your trip--or you can tell us when you get home. Have a wonderful time. Clubm, everything sounds delish! We just love spinach, but have to watch how much, since Harry takes Coumiden. I see you've been at the Garden Web for a while. Do you post much? I sure hope you plan to in the future!! Well now, Shirley. That sounds like a plan. Wonder where Glenda will lead us tomorrow? I just love cyber-dreams :-) Pam, I sure hope your sister has good news from the biopsies. Then you can go back to the same restaurant for a celebration ;0 Don't blame you for skipping the other stuff. I would, too....See MoreWhat's for dinner........Saturday edition
Comments (9)Gosh, everyone's dinner sounds so good! I swear that I'm going to get a slow cooker; I must be one of the few that don't. I'm looking forward to those cool autumn evenings. I sort of miss our little outdoor chiminea....it was enjoyable to sit around a fire and chat over drinks. Jasdip, my eyes are FABULOUS! My vision gets sharper and brighter every day. I asked Robert this evening if he noticed that the TV reception had improved and he just laughed at me. I simply cannot believe that I have this vision out of my own eyes. My doctor somehow managed to finess my new lenses so that I feel like I have almost infinite far vision but still can see well enough close up that I've only needed readers for very small print. I can put on my makeup, read most things without my new little readers. I will donate all of my eye glasses next week. Pretty amazing. I had him, his technician, and myself dabbing our eyes last week at a checkup visit after my second surgery. I made him stop what he was going, I took his hand in mine, leaned close to him and told him how much my new vision meant to me, someone who had really been so burdened by terrible vision since I was a little, tiny girl. I wanted him to know that my life was changed....See MoreJilly
