Need (quick) help dec'g a boy's military-theme room
Comments (13)Hmmm, well, the room is currently in shambles, as we've started pulling things from the walls to paint. After I get the posters and everything, I'll definitely share. Could be a week or two, of course, but I'm looking forward to it. Thanks again for the suggestions! A few comments - - I like the idea of some WWII posters; I'll have to look more carefully on eBay. - The closest Wal-Mart is an hour away (as is pretty much everything); it might just be easier to pay for expedited shipping from some online store. - Love the idea of a tent, although I'm not sure where I could put it, especially if we do eventually construct that loft area above his bed. My idea was to (eventually, mind you) create a sort of facade so that it looked like something military - even if it just looks like a mock-up of a generic military 'building' out in the field. I'd use the same design (well, for the loft) for my daughters' room, except that in their case, it would be a barn. - I definitely need to visit a surplus store or two, so perhaps I'll line up a couple near WalMart or some such place. I'll have to return for help with the rest of my house! My home (with my decorating [in]ability), would likely benefit greatly from the good and helpful advice from all of you. It's quite a desperate situation. :) Thanks again!...See MoreHelp with my son's 'big boy' room...
Comments (4)auburn92 First..a big congrats on your new baby! How exciting. Your little boy must be so excited to be a big brother.. doing his room right before baby, will make him feel special. I love Land of Nod!! and I love the bedding! just perfect! I like the color of the walls in the picture. To break up yellow or gold, add red area carpets and red accents to the walls. Or..there are many nice shades of blue, that will work also. Or..a nice cream and blue pin strip wall paper on the bottom under a chair rail, and either gold, red or blue paint on top, it will break up solid walls that way if you think one color will be too much ..there are so many options, which is great! I love the vintage airplanes and old trunks..that is a perfect idea..maybe find stickers from travel places and stick them on the trucks..or you can make a collage of different places around the world and states and frame it in red as well.. maybe some small flags from different countries for the walls too..( the are triangle in shape and can be put on string to hang across the wall..) I think this will be a beautiful boys room..you have all the right ideas..it's fun and whimsical ..very different from the same ol' sports, trains, cars etc.. you are going to have fun decorating his room. you have to post pictures when you are done. Comments (9)You could paint the nook where his bed is red above his head and the wall around the window and ac. Then wrap the red on around just into the white shelf area; the two ends and back wall forming the recess for the shelf. You could also use it to punch up that funky little bit of wall by the door with the dart board. If you paint everything gray first, you can step back and make the final decision before committing to red paint. You may decide that it will be better to paint the furniture red instead. Or you may just want to add red accessories like a duvet cover, pillows and rug. That way, when he tires of red, you can just pop in another color he likes by a simple change of soft goods....See Morehelp! boys room!
Comments (7)I know you didn’t ask, but as a mother I found it easier to teach my kids to make their beds if the beds were not against a wall. It actually doesn’t save much floor space. The exception would be for a little family member of mine who is special needs and needs to be up against the wall so he doesn’t fall out of bed. I, too, like the idea of asking the son what he wants as far as a color or a theme. Then you can pick out two or three items and let him decide. It gives him some control and helps him make choices as he gets older. It can also be a fun project for the two of you. I just read a post from a woman who said her son had been asking for red walls for four years...how sad. He could have had the color than made him happy and when he outgrew the red, a little primer and paint would have redone the room....See Morespainte2
