Is there a perfect Pottery Barn sofa fabric?

I've read through every PB fabric post and comment on the internet now and my head is spinning. Want to purchase a sectional but want it to be durable, work with dogs that will jump on it and potentially with dirty paws so thinking contract grade. Many say performace tweed pills. Some like performance linen but others say does't wipe clean and requires drycleaning. Is there a perfect fabric? Who loves their oatmeal/pebble/stone colored PB sofa and what fabric do you have? We all want to know! Thank you!!!

I don't know anything about PB furniture, but I can give you my opinion about fabric. I had a cat who liked to destroy my furniture. I love cats, but I will not have another. I like nice furniture so I spend money on those investments. The only fabric I found that was indestructible was a traditional navy (or navy pattern) tweed - thick and extremely tightly woven - popular in the 1950s, 1960s, or 1970s. Have a good long talk with your furniture salesperson to be sure you get what you want. Also ask trusted neighbors and friends. Below is the

picture of mine. It's an Ethan Allen Melrose, but they don't have that style anymore.

Most PB padded furniture (sofas, loveseats, etc.) are available slipcovered. Unless you opt for leather, with pets I would always go for a slipcovered piece that can be laundered as necessary.

I've purchased upholstered furniture from Pottery Barn in the past (not the Pearce) and have generally been happy. I'd stick with their twills or canvas colors since they're the most durable. FYI... you may also want to look at clubfurniture.com. Check out their Brooke style (click link below), it's almost identical to the Pearce at PB. Hmmm this is every parent's dilemma. Not sure if PB sells this sofa/fabric combo as resistant to a large house hold? There is a standard for fabric durability, here is some information regarding Double Rubs for Residential Applications. Heavy Duty: 15,000+ double rubs. Suitable for family rooms. Medium Duty: 9,000-15,000 double rubs. Versatile. Good for living or family rooms. Light Duty: 3,000-9,000 double rubs. Usually better suited for formal or occasional use furniture. Delicate Duty: Less than 3,000 double rubs. Recommended for more decorative use as in curtains, drapes or pillows. I purchased a chair from Ethan Allen and had it upholstered in Sunbrella fabric. I am very happy with the finished product.

We have the Sunbrella Performance Chenille in Cloud on the curved Buchanan sectional. It is 3 years old. Daily use from 2 adults, 3 big fluffy dogs, and 2 cats. Lots of use from visiting family with children and elderly adults. Stains come up with Woolite/water mix. It does get dirty over time. I risked it and took off all the covers and machine washed them with Woolite. I dried on air only. They came out great. I have done this twice. We have a front load LG with a delicate cycle and option for tap water cold. We have well water.

I am also looking at performance twill vs warm white denim vs regular twill, I am afraid too afraid to be dissappointed with the sunbrella performance sahara weave as the cost is so much higher. I want a machine washable fabric. My concern about the performance twill, though PB says it’s machine washable, the perfromance twill has been ’treated’ as listed on their website ,which like the everyday crypton linen also being ‘treated’ (per PB customer chat online helper) and I believe that’s why it has to be dry cleaned. Previous posts, someone machine washed their everyday crypton linen and some areas molted. unfortunately, the regular twill only has 15,000 rub count, and the performance twill is 100,000 rub count, which in the end will last much longer. the white denim has 50,000 rub count, which is great. my other concern is the performance twill being treated, may be stiff and make the sofa less comfortable regardless of the type of cushion fill. I am going this weekend or friday to PB to check out the fabrics and will check out the sunbrella performance sahara weave fabrics, but honestly they are beyond my budget for this sofa :(. I don’t know if this helps you. Do you have any concerns? Mine are: pilling and knot formation on the fabric. And must be machine washable. Since the performance twill is treated, if you machine wash it, how will that affect the ’treated’ areas? Will it alter its performance. I would like to wash as often as I find the sofa dirty without disparaging its performance status if I am to pay more.

I've had dogs for about 35 years, they are allowed to go anywhere they want in the house except the bed, yes the couches.

I struggled for years trying to find a solution to issues dogs create on the couch. Cleanliness being at the top of the list.

Ive looked at new couches and quizzed sales folks about dog issues and most have stated that they are easily cleaned.

I have friends who have spent tons of money for a supposidly easy to clean couch with doggie residue and they look awful within a year.

I used to use neatly tucked sheets on the sitting area but was never really happy with it. Then someone suggested painters drop canvas because of it's durability and you get lots of bang for your buck.

I re-covered my 35 year old couch with the stuff (no sewing just lots of fussing) and have a separate piece just for the seat cushions that I wash at least once a week, more if needed. The canvas lasts a long time, looks nice and is cheap. I did buy some nice pillow covers to give things a punch, again easily washed.

When the canvas wears out I replace it

I'd love to have a beautiful couch, unfortunately I don't think doggies and beautiful couches go well together.
