Is the decision to keep the floor purely a budget decision? If so, I’d honestly save up until you can do a more comprehensive renovation. A quality paint job of the cabinets will be very expensive and the arches on the cabinets are very dated, so unless you personally love those cabinets, paint a lot to get a new beautiful finish on them doesn’t seem like the best decision. The countertop pattern you are looking at will not work with the floors. Wait until you can really do it all well.

Love your inspiration photo but agree it would not be a good look with your floors. What we did with cabinets we didn't like was put a cheaper paint job on them so we had a nicer look to our kitchen while waiting to do a complete remodel.

Revere Pewter is actually the color we painted our cabinets and we still have it in our primary bathroom. If you want to change the look for now while waiting then a creme would certainly look more at home with your floors than a gray and substantially lighten your look up.

Can you buy new cabinet doors for a more updated look? Might not be much difference in price to a quality paint job.

You may not like what Patricia has to say, but she offers some sound advice. The countertop you have chosen will not play well with your floors...if you are not replacing them, use the floors to drive your design (cool tones will clash - warm tones will be your friend).

Hard NO to that counter with those floors. Your countertop and paint actually look pretty good with the cabinets. I suggest changing out the backsplash for a simple subway in a tone that corresponds with the cabs and counter and call it a day.

Agree with the above posters. That counter and backsplash do not go with the floor no matter what color you are painting the cabinets. The floor is very warm. The counter and backsplash cool tones. It does not match.

OP, what clients? Gotta wonder why some seem to spend all day, every day on this website. There is in fact a way to combine warm + cool colors, but whether its that marble and that floor - prob not. I cant see floor clearly enough to know what colors are there, and even what the pattern is exactly.

Setting aside the question of color, I think the discrepancy between floor and proposed countertop has to do with a clash of styles. The funky retro flower pattern just doesnt work well with the more sleek and strictly modern look of your inspiration pic. And make no mistake, "modern farmhouse" while it may be farmhouse inspired is very much a strictly modern early 2000s thing . Thus.... the marble would be at home in a more high end glamor kitchen , while the funky flower floor gives a more retro or rustic kind of vibe. Neither is better or worse, the question is only what do you want your kitchen to be?

Re: arched doors - it is what it is. If you like them then that's all that matters. Its possible to futz around with flipping doors so square framing faces outwards but is it worth it - vs just buying paint grade replacement doors vs. just living with them for now and getting your refreshed look via color, new hardware, laminate, window coverings, etc.

steph, I have to agree,,,don't spend money on the countertops and painting but keep that flooring. It's going to look disjointed.

would you rather hear the truth now or after you've spent 10-20K, only to find out the kitchen doesn't look like you imagined? You can't bring in nice, new, shiny and modern, and stick them outdated, builder basic cabs w/busy looking tiles in a completely diff color tone than what you're choosing!

You came on here for advice and everyone is telling you the same (for the most part). Don't shoot the messengers.

Is that the only spot w/those tiles? you can't replace them? What if you could paint them until you could replace, is thatsomething you would do? Lots of info on painting kitchen floor tiles.

Patricia has a point about lighting. do you have a single ceiling fixutre? you need 4000K bulbs or everythign is going to have a yellowish/pink hue. can you put in a few more lights or get a better one w/better bulbs?

Counter depth fridge is a MUST for this kitchen.

The cabinets. who is painting them? Are they a solid wood or that really smooth, plastic like finish? Are they built from fiberboard or solid 1/4" plywood?

What is a pro painter charging you to paint them? Are they sanding them? priming, sanding again?

you have almost no drawers. drawers are better for storage.

for the money you'll spend on painting, get them refaced w/drawers. (plus, the arches are really dated looking) Yes this matters becasue you're bringing in a very modern looking quartz countertop that will not work w/that style cabinet, or those tile floors.

I'd also spend a bit more to take your cabinets up to the ceiling. either add boxes on top, or do a larger trim piece w/crown. if you reface, you can get taller doors.

I’d have to agree with those cautioning against mixing warm and cold. Personally, I don’t try - too easy to have things go wrong. Pick warm (cream tan beige brown tones) or cold (white silver gray black tones) and stick with it.
