Comments (16)Still a good price, but that's kind of a weird location (although it is just down from one of my favorite restaurants (Canella, love the Cyprus breakfast) and, across the street, one of my favorite bars (Varga)). Thanks for the info, I'll pass it along. With the city's recent reassessment of taxes, these sorts of properties are going to get a little silly (what the city would call "fair") as far as property taxes are concerned. Fortunately, they used the 1826 square footage of my house, which is 500 square feet under what it actually is, saving me about $1.5K. It's hard to pass up those room sizes if you can afford the house. I could not, so that's the difference between $475-500K and $1M+....See MoreSee a time capsule/ruin, while it lasts.
Comments (45)I see your points, Pal. I'm just trying to understand the reasons, not question the judgements or make some sort of claim about the windows in my house. Are there financial incentives for owners of historic homes to maintain the original elements of the home? Like the Energystar tax credits? I know there are design and restoration requirements for homes in my community designated as historic by our local commission. But many people who live in genuinely historic homes steer clear of that official designation because of the stringent requirements. It's too costly, no matter how lovely or endeared the home. But if there were financial incentives for maintenance, that might persuade them to paint what's there every 7-10 years, for example, rather than replace with a modern window that doesn't require such maintenance. ETA the Energystar tax credits isn't a good example here but it's the financial incentive they provide to persuade a homeowner from making a certain choice that's the point....See MoreElegant MCM time capsule
Comments (16)I wouldn't say the wood is worn, but the finish is discoloured, and probably looked a lot nicer 60 years ago. But if I had the money to buy the house, the cost of refinishing all the wood would not be a concern....See MoreTiny retro time capsule!
Comments (24)I like a lot of it, but the kitchen does seem tight. In the photo with the sink, the cabinets above look rusted, and I don't think the fridge opposite the sink could be opened if you try to stand in front of it. Pink flamingos in Baltimore makes me think of John Waters. Some of it has a 1980s Memphis feel, which I always liked. I also like the pastel colors in the bathroom. I had cowboy wallpaper in my bedroom (in Texas) in the 1950s, which I hated, but mine was more like this. I did not like cowboys as a child but did dress as an Indian when playing cowboys and Indians. I had a chenille bedspread with a cowboy riding a bronco back then which I also hated, but it would probably have camp value today....See MoreFori
