Thanks everyone! We live in SF in an affluent neighborhood. The building we're in is quite average and not fancy, but still valued at about $1000.00 per sf. To me, glass is a a must but hubby is stressing, as we've already spent more than planned. He is balking at my 'tension rod now, glass later' plan, so here's my question.... If we were to install a drilled into the wall rod now, and do glass later, how bad will those holes look?

I hate shower curtains that cover up all the nice tile work get a glass door and add color with towels and accessories and a throw on the bed in one of those colors

I agree, roman shade would be first choice but a couple others for your consideration: 1) you could make a perfect size cheap cafe curtain to cover 1/2 -2/3 of the window with some iron on hemming tape either rod pocket orclip on curtain rings, that way you let the top half of the light in 2) window obscuring sheets are very easy to apply and found on amazon. I have the former in my downstairs powder and latter in my upstairs bath and I've never had a peeling or moisture problem 3 years later

Is your new rod a tension rod? If so, or if you're allowed to drill into the tile, hang it higher. It's difficult to find longer decorative shower curtains to fit tubs. But you can often find stall size longer curtains, so check for those first. If not wide enough, just get two. If you can't find something you like, what I have done sometimes is bought hooks that are double so you can hang a decorative curtain outside the tub and a waterproof curtain inside the tub. Plain waterproof curtains in longer sizes are easier to find. Then look at regular window curtains for the decorative one. They are longer and the styles are endless. You might not find one wide enough, but just buy two and hang them side by side, overlap if necessary for them to hang correctly. Or join them with iron-on tape or stitch them. Be sure to get grommet top, not rod pocket. If the rug is not real fur, if it fits lengthwise between the wall and toilet, I might put it in front of the sink and get something smaller for by the tub that will fit lengthwise in front of the tub. Lift it and hang it on the edge of the tub between showers. You can do black and white or almost any color you want because what's there is so neutral.
