best ways to insulate walls of 1969 built home
Comments (5)Attic is far more important than walls. As weed eluded to, insulation is far more important in the winter. The cool effect in the summer has a lot more to do with shade and windows, the coolness of the night and the thermal mass. I'll just throw a couple of things out there. Seattle has vastly different weather than the majority of the country so you really need to check on the locals and what they do. You also still have pretty low electric rates I think. It may actually not be cost effective to blow the walls with foam. It might cost you $5000 and save just $300 a year (whether or not you find that cost effective is a topic for another discussion). Money may not be the only concern and sound abatement would improve. You are a remodel. The tax credit for insulation expires 12/31 - don't miss it. This would certainly count....See MoreDo I need to continue backsplash onto adjoining wall?
Comments (5)Thank you all. I understand pics say it best...but you've all pegged exactly what I was trying to explain. Thank you for the example pictures too. I hadn't ever thought of turning the corner and stopping at the front of the upper cabinet rather than the edge of the countertop. Both of your kitchens look awesome! I will post pics later and hopefully have "after" pics soon too! Amber...See MoreThis is 1 of 2 adjoining bedrooms. Should I paint ceiling/wall same?
Comments (11)I think you could, but in our ceiling like that, we painted the 45 angles the same color as the vertical walls, and put the white only on the middle horizontal line of the room. It was shocking at how different the room felt. It was like someone finally got the combo just right. We had a light green walls, with only the white on the horizontal of the ceiling... The room felt so much larger! So you might consider that. In your case, if you want to do something different?? just put the blue on the horizontal line of the ceiling and put the white on the walls and 45 degree angle surfaces. Blue ceiling are soooo coool! And ....ne'er a spider will make a web there, really! It is crazy but true....See MoreI want to make built ins...any advice on what will look best?
Comments (13)keep in mind its 13 foot high ceilings. so certain things will not look right here. i'm thinking if we add shelf by shelf without adding the sides or back, if we paint the recessed area and the shelves all white, it will look like a unit. trouble is it's a headache to get it all even if we do each shelf one by one. There is space for a cabinet...the place used to have a built in cabinet there before. but we took it out cause it wastn' a nice looking one. if we re-do it, the space is sufficient for me as it was before with the previous unit....See Moremainenell
