window covering advice

Hi,

We just added a bedroom for a teen girl. It faces the street. Her desk will be in front of the window.

I'd love advice on what kind of window covering to put there. I was thinking top down shades so she can let light in while maintaining privacy, but realized that then when she sits at her desk she is just staring at the blind. Now I'm thinking normal mini blinds may be better so she can tilt them for light to be able to look out, but I really like the idea of top down.

Any advice?

Does anyone know if mini blinds can be motorized or top down? (I can't seem to see top/down.)

there are better options than mini blinds.

when she is sitting at the desk, can't she open the blinds?

top down is fine,, they have them on cellulars too.

or look at Pirouette (easy-rise. love these colors)

or Silouette blinds.

they can also be tilted but look way better. and come in many colors

That's certainly alot of blinds. I'm thinking that when she's at her desk, she wouldn't want the blind raised completely since it faces the street. With a mini blind she could tilt the slats slightly up so she could see reasonably well but people who might be outside (lower on sidewalk or street) wouldn't see her. I like the way silhouette looks but not sure I'd want to obstruct view.

Sheers between the drapes.....lets in light during the day and at night there is nothing you can see through them. We have sheers on all our windows in the city and have not had anyone say they can see in.

I really love the softness of roman shades but I am open to faux woods. My dining room window and the window behind the couch face north so, for the most part, I would only close them at night. I'm more worried about reducing the light coming in from the patio door which faces east. But I'm not sure how to do roman shades or faux woods on the glass slider... do you think either would work?

I think she needs to tell you what she would like to look at while she is at her desk. We have international students and not one of them uses the desk in their room we have mini blinds in the bedrooms and they just pull them up whemn they want the view and the light does not seem to be a big issue and IMO no need for motorized at all.

the silhouette tilts like the mini blinds. obstruct the view? you just said she wouldn't open them while she's there. what's the diff if it's obstucted w/mini blinds or something that's a nicer option?

Agree with patricia. why not show her the pictures (which is why I posted so many. Options) and see what she likes.
