Comments (10)I would like to share my expereience with this plant. I have grown Calatheas before and I know they like humid conditions. Last year this plant was doing good until late summer then it started to drop the leaves I thought it was dead. I brought the pot inside for the winter with the intentions of dumping and using the pot for another plant. It sat in the laundry room all winter and about April I saw new leaves coming up. The correct name is Calathea Dottie if you want to look it up. This is what it looks like now. I have it outside in dark shade, we are having a very hot and humid summer it is putting out two leaves a week. It should be back to its large size by the end of summer. So I shared this with you to say,. If it goes dormant do not give up on her. LOL...See MoreCalathea: a fragrant houseplant for low light
Comments (4)Kemistry, I grow this with no direct sunlight at all in my bedroom (the only window is north-facing). And it's too far away from any artificial lighting to receive any benefit from that. Just keep it well watered on the moist side, but not soggy. If allowed to dry completely some of the leaves may start to turn brown. I water it like once or twice a week dependingly. It's pretty easy to care for; not much fuss. I've been wanting to get a corn plant as well, but they're just too gigantic for my room hehe. I figure the species I have is C. concinna, but Daxin mentions it wasn't concinna he got but a similar-looking species, so perhaps that might be more fragrant than C. concinna. The bad thing is the flowers only last a day. Good thing is they bloom in sucession. After this one died, 3 more flowers popped out of the bracts and I can see more coming. Stoke's Tropicals sells a variety of Calathea with pink bracts held up high that is noted to be fragrant. The flowers are actually white though....See MoreID please for the houseplant
Comments (9)Those dried stipule, leaves venation made me think it is Ficus, there are too many species (creeping, shrub, tree) Where is the geographical location, is it natives there, is it common or rather a collector kind of plants For ficus identification, do you see root on those vine?, can you show tip of plant, (ficus has cap-stipule), does it bleed white sap if you cut leaves/stem If it in my area I would suggest Ficus Sagitata (quite variable in leaves morph and size) also could be F. vilosa (usually more hairy, but it is variable also) the fruit will also needed for figs ID, but most fig fruits only after mature and with specific wasp....See MorePlease I.D. this houseplant?
Comments (6)Hi Don. When I water mine I set the pot in a bucket and fill it with water up to the soil level and let it soak for 15 minutes. At this time of year that is usually good for 7-10 days. Learn the heft of a just watered pot and then don't water until much lighter. tj...See Morenewhostalady Z6 ON, Canada
