I was so set on getting wood look tile until my friends told me to check on Luxury Vinyl, and after doing some reading here on GW, I am almost convinced to switch to LVP/LVT. BUT then I see @Season Contreras's beautiful tiles, I am not so sure again! I like the durability of the tiles and that we can drag furniture on it with no problem of scratching it or damaging it, but then I like the LVP for being warm and not so hard on foot. We are doing about 1000 sqft for kitchen plus family room and entry way, (the rest of the house is carpet for bedrooms and a loft). We have two boys and a dog, a pool right outside the family room, got a big yard with lots of dirt, boys will probably bring some of that in all the time.... Houses in my neighborhood worth about a little over a mil (not ours because we bought it a fixer), they mostly are retired so no little kids running around so they mostly use hardwood or engineered wood. We are in our 40s and plan to retire in this house and not selling anytime soon. What should I use, Wood look tiles or Luxury Vinyl? Thank you for your help!

Ask for the repeat or how many 'faces' it has. Woodlook porcelain tile can have 8 or more. LVP often uses one sheet the length of the planks and maybe wide enough for 4 different looks. Possibly more depending on the width of each plank. I'd like the see 12+ different faces. Maybe 4-5 different sheets to cut the printed face picture from.

Yes, I am extremely displeased and will never call him again. That is for sure! Back to original question -- you say not possible. My only choice is to spend a few more thousands to correct the first blunder and watch the installer like a hawk. You really have to be vigilant and watchful. Sigh. Installing hardwood in Florida takes extra effort. The first part of that effort is having EXCELLENT humidity control in the home. In hot, humid climates that means the A/C might not be enough. It might require an additional whole-home dehumidifier. It can also rule out an 'open window' type of home. Again, it depends on the location and the humidity levels. Hardwoods must be kept in a 'happy humidity' range between 45% - 60%. At all times. Every minute of every day. For ever and ever. And ever and ever. That means you will spend more on your HVAC system to have that type of 'push button' control (whole home humidifier/dehumidifier). And then the type of build also dictates the best practice for installation of hardwoods. A concrete slab takes extra effort to glue down wood. A high-end adhesives must be used and those add $2-$3/sf...just for the glue. The hardwood and labour are on top of that. In Florida, the most appropriate floors are stone, tile, terrazzo or concrete. All of which are hard and cold. Of course a cool floor in a hot climate is a BENEFIT...not a drawback. Part of the cold flooring is it helps keep the house feeling cool. Vinyl is then the next option. The difference between the 'wood look' or the stone/tile look is simply aesthetics. If you LIKE the look of wood, then go for it. If you LIKE the look of stone/tile, then go for it. With vinyl you will require very good UV block on your windows. Ask your builder what level you have on your windows right now. You will want to find something with UV block ABOVE 50%. I prefer to see 70% - 75%. That keeps the vinyl and the house cool. But it also makes growing indoor plants a difficulty. Plants struggle with UV blocking windows at 70% or higher.
