IKEA Single Drawer in top of 30 & 36 inch Cabinets?
Comments (5)30" drawer, no problem, you can use the shallow 30" drawer from the oven cabinet (sold separately). 36" drawer - there is no SINGLE shallow drawer front the right size. If you care more about space than the look of a single drawer, you could use a 36" wide drawer bottom or mdf and one set of the shallow 18" slides behind 2 18" drawer fronts bolted together in the back to do basically the opposite of what you're asking. There's a tutorial for this on ikeafans....See MoreIs this drawer too heavy?
Comments (4)I don't know for sure, but I'd guess that that their ratings are like most of these where they're very conservative rather than giving you the absolute limit. That is, they're not worried about you suing them because the drawer failed and broke you great-grandma's dishes at 75 pounts. It'll probably take a lot more. So you're safe at 70 lbs. on the hardware. The question is, do you have a heavy duty bottom on your drawer? Will it break under 50 lbs. of dishes? If not, I'd wager you're good to go....See More36 inch range or 30 inch range and spice rack drawer?
Comments (17)I would start with what you're accustomed to cooking on/with now: Have you been cooking on a 30 and always wished you had a larger cooking surface? Have you been using a 36 all these years and find you actually don't use one or two burners (or whatever the differential between 30 and 36 is)? If you've been using a 36, is it a good tradeoff to lose a burner for the sake of gaining countertop space and the spice rack? Good advice. I cook every day. Ambitious recipes, large quantities, lots of baking, the whole 9 yards, but it's quite rare that I say to myself, "I wish I had a larger cooking space and/or a second oven". It's just not something that I really need or want. However, I own more kitchen goods than a Williams Sonoma store, so that bit of extra storage space would be more than welcome. I wouldn't go with a spice pull-out though. You don't want to store spices by the heat of the stove, and those things are fairly expensive for the small storage they provide -- I vote for a slightly wider upper instead....See More36" Ikea Sink base w/ double drawer front--pulls/trash?
Comments (9)Terri, I have a head cold so my thinking is not 100% clear today. :-) I'm going to hopefully answer your question and not be confusing. (I'm not sure of my chances with this!) If you are talking about combining drawer fronts (regardless of whether or not they are 18" or 36") then it would look like the first picture in this post (but wider if 36"). That would involve connecting the drawer fronts with this Ikea part: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20277436/ I don't see any reason you couldn't combine the drawer fronts and drill hinge holes to make the combined drawer fronts in to doors. We used custom fronts in our Ikea kitchen, but we were able to drill the hinge holes ourselves in a few cover panels and it was not difficult. The important thing would be to make sure you put the connectors in a place that don't conflict with the hinge holes. (Probably moving them in a little bit. Or, a possibly much simpler solution would be to buy 2 18"x20" doors and two 18" by 10" drawer fronts. You could attach the 10" tall drawer fronts permanently to the sink base, so they don't move.It shouldn't interfere much with the access to cabinet, since the sink will be taking up the top of the cabinet. Then you could attach the two 18"x20" tall doors as regular doors with hinges and you could put the handle anywhere and even use the cup pulls and make them look like drawers if you want. Maybe you don't mind the idea of pull outs under the sink. But if you are not putting your trash there, it seems like the pull outs are more inconvenient for under sink access. I personally like having the doors there. I don't think hacking the cabinet/fronts in either of these ways would be too difficult. So if you think doors would be better, you can make it work. At the very least I would consider whether you want to do a 36" pull out versus 2 18". The really wide pull outs felt really awkward to me at the Ikea store. If you do 18" pull outs you can add a small piece of wood at the bottom to make that happen as is demonstrated in some of pippabean's links....See MoreLori DeCarolis
