Paint Ceilings, Shutters, Banisters..?

Our house needs interior paint. The first contractor who showed up asked if we were planning to include the ceilings. Of course, I said. He seemed surprised. Why? Isnt it typical to paint the ceilings when you paint everything else?

Also, we have shutters… lots of shutters. They are a pale ”natural” wood now, which I don’t like.

(The carpets are GOING. We’re having vinyl plank installed starting 1/31. i’d like the painting done asap after that. New couch and loveseat coming too, will be light blue leather. TV will go into a custom niche that will cover up the fireplace we never use. Niche building starts 1/25).

I want the shutters painted dark brown (color of corner cabinet — walls will be Sherwin-Williams Creamy, trim white). The contractor turned pale; every one of them woud have to be taken down, sanded etc., before painting, and there are 10-15 sets of shutters throughout the house (some are on smaller windows, however).I havent seen his estimate yet, but he led me to understand that making the shutters look the way I want would cost a LOT.

Am I crazy? Could I leave them alone and still get the traditional/non-rustic look I want? I’m really not a fan of the current light-neutral look.

This picture shows a different house, same floor plan, same complex. My door is currently the same color as the one in the photo. This is the look I like — and yes, I told the painter that the banisters would be dark brown too.

Here are our stairs now:

Borrrring…

The stairs will have vinyl plank and a carpet runner.

My preferrd style is British Colonial. I detest MCM; I grew up with that stuff, never liked it. I want a nonfussy, noncutesey, traditional yet informal look in my house. We have two small dogs, plus we like to snack in front of the TV — that’s to explain the leather furniture and the waterproof vinyl plank floors.

Opinions, please? Many thanks!
