Comments (22)Dark Witch looks interesting. That clump of Double River Wye looks good in front of the Shasta daisy. Ideally, daylilies should be grown amidst other perennials, as Bennett did in his garden. Dance Again is one I haven't noticed before. Desire of Nations is an important hybridizing plant, but has been disappointing as a garden plant. Slow growth and late spring freezes are probably responsible for recent subpar bloom. Dream Sequence, vigorous and showy Dankie --limited bud count, but a softly alluring shade Darker Shade--darker and more purplish, but a difficult shade to capture Duel Zone --a nice bitone, though plant habit is not ideal Drums Along the Mohawk Dennis Russell --a nice plant, though not the quality of Glowing Quasar Dixieland Band has been a consistent and colorful later bloomer in recent years. Deep Dark Secret was nice this past year. The cream pink watermark of Dr. McGregor's Garden is very appealing. Dark Gethsemane --we shall see Drew Hoo looks very promising Dragon Nation is vigorous, used a lot by Mary Baker in hybridizing. Dirty Bastard Not my best picture of Daniel Howard Norris, but the best from this past year....See MoreP and Q daylilies 2022
Comments (20)Sherry, your Pizza Crust is always so impressive. I have it and it does not give me that kind of explosion. I rarely photograph it. Debra, Picasso's Intrigue is stunning in that photo. And you got a good shot of Private Reserve-it is so hard to get that kind of no splotch picture. Pink Lemonade Party is such a pretty pink. Brad, I agree that seedling is a "look at me" kind of plant! I still have Priscilla's Rainbow because it is such a good plant and it really is a looker in a clump. David, Proper Stranger is pretty and at that size probably really stands out. I like Passing Fancy as well. Nan, Papa's Goose looks good in your photo. I have debated that one but have not yet convinced myself I really need it! Still enjoying everyone's posts when I can!! So nice to see them on these dreary winter days!!! Comments (23)Steve - That's a great shot of Ram! I grew it for seven or eight years in a pot, and it was always impressive. Here are more of my R's: Roaring Rapids Rose Sensation had a lot of splotchy flowers on the original blooms, but the rebloom flowers were very nice. Rosie With a Ring bloomed for the first time in my garden last year. I look forward to seeing this one at clump strength in the future. Rosy Rhino is the parent of my intro, Dearest Valentine. Rouen Cathedral is a great late bloomer, and very tall. With last year's cooler temps, Royal Cypher's eye and edge looked more blue than the usual purple. It had never looked like this before Royal Invitation looked so pretty on rebloom. This one has really impressed me with its flowers, multiplying and pod setting. It's taller than the registered 22 inches too. Scapes were 24-26 inches here last season. Royal Jester is an excellent late bloomer that sometimes reblooms. Ruby Lipstick has still not recovered from grub predation. I miss my big, healthy clump of it. Two Ruby Lipstick seedlings: Debra...See MoreBest Budded Daylilies of 2022
Comments (15)Sherry - I was looking at this thread again and noticed your comment about daylilies with fewer scapes having more buds. This is something I've really noticed since I've been hybridizing. My seedlings tend to have more buds the first two-three years they bloom. Once they grow into large clumps, the bud counts go down. I think that's a good reason to divide large clumps into smaller divisions. Debra...See MoreMaryl (Okla. Zone 7a)
