As advised, you can stain it first and paint it later if you do not like it, but a stained door will give a much richer appearance and be easier to maintain. Painted doors look cheaper because they ARE cheaper, as nhb22 said. Since you are doing three panel craftsmen style doors, a stained finish is more traditional and will be visually more interesting. In the 1950s, many plain flat interior doors were constructed with beautiful veneers and then stained, but a cheap flat door would look better painted. Paint is used to hide ugly wood - stain is used to enhance beautiful wood.

The door you are considering is very nice. I don't think it is in major conflict with Georgian style; I just don't see it as a front door. I think it would make an excellent choice leading to a patio. As an entry, it reads to me more institutional than residential - reminds me of college. But, if you are trying to get more natural light in the foyer, then maybe this is the route. If go with these doors, are you planning to make changes to your trim and pediment? I think you could go "beefier" and if you plan to stain the door, you might consider a pediment that is not broken so there is more contrast between the masonry and the trim. I think your home could carry more substantial lighting fixtures.

My house was built in 1988 so it is from the golden oak era. All my cabinets, doors, and trim were golden oak. My floors are not oak (they are ash) but they did have a golden color to them. The floors also had cherry accent in the dining area and around the great room. We refinished the floors and left them natural. We remodeled the kitchen 7 years ago and put in natural cherry cabinets. The cabinets have darkened a bit and have a warm reddish color to them. I do think you should have your floors lighter than your cabinets. We left all the golden oak trim and doors as was. So I have a "lot of stained wood" going on. I love the look of it and I do not mind an "entire house of stained wood, same color or not" as Anglophilia warns against. I had 1600 sq feet installed on wood subfloor, plywood in wet areas and osb elsewhere. Great product overall very happy. As to the creeking and popping yes I have some of that but its a tradeoff for how rigid this stuff is and as a result it is almost impossible to scratch. I did weeks of research! I ordered dozens of samples and this one is the real deal for scratch resistance, its bulletproof! Because it is so rigid it requires an absolute flat surface to avoid creaks/pops. You cannot assume your floor is flat, every square ft must be checked and floated as needed using professional grade straight edges at least 8 feet long. I did that in most areas of my space and those areas are sound, not creaks or pops. the areas I did not is where I have that issue but the trade off is worth it to me for the durability. it seems to get better over time.
