I haven't used Hollytone but many people do successfully. It's a lot safer than ammonium sulfate. The later is safe if dissolved first at a modest concentration. I got my fastest growth in pots by mixing 1 teaspoon per 2.5 gallons and applying once a week. In ground once a month should do. Small frequent doses are much safer than one large shot. Right now I'm mixing 1 ml per gallon which is, I think, a fair amount less than rate above. Where I've burned plants with ammonium sulfate is applying it dry at excessive rates and watering in. That can fry the roots. PS: A teaspoon is 5 ml. So rates above are 2 ml per gallon vs 1 ml per gallon. This post was edited by fruitnut on Wed, Jul 30, 14 at 12:00

Good thing you posted again. What happens with this forum is if you post a new message and leave it alone, it will remain at the top of the forum for several days while people decide whether they want to reply. What you did was immediately post more pictures. That released your message to drift down through the milieu of new posts right away. Your post today bumped it back to the top. You overseeded with bermuda on June 1 and less than a month later you are concerned about it not filling in. Is that correct? I would say, come back in a month and see if you have the same questions. How are you watering now? How often and for how long? It is time to fertilize with organic fertilizer. I would suggest using Milorganite as the bag rate. Milorganite is an organic that will not hurt your grass and will improve your soil. Typically centipede grasses thrive in the poorest of soils, so the Milorganite will be a good first step in reviving it. In August you can probably start in with the Bermuda Bible recommendations on fertilizer. With that soil you might want to alternate monthly feedings between organic and chemical for a year. All this fertilizer and water will kill off any vestiges of centipede you might have still hanging on.

I wonder if they were only 3 inches if they needed to be potted longer? Just a guess - I've never grown them from cuttings.

Last year was my first year growing mandevilla. I planted it out in late May and noticed it wasn't really growing much for a good month. At first I thought maybe it was growing roots (rather than top growth because I had transplanted it) but then I noticed that my plant started to grow more in July, when the weather finally warmed up. It grew to about 4 feet long by autumn, even bloomed a few times and I overwintered indoors. I had to cut back somewhat to untangle it from the trellis and I did transplant into a smaller pot. Anyway this year same thing, my plant has only recently started growing and basically resembles a two foot stem with a few clusters of new growth on it. We are having a cool summer so far too, aside from about 10 days of warm humid weather. Glen
