New construction, wrong windows in great room
Comments (15)Thanks for your encouraging words, EcoStar! The correct window is similar in size. The builder called my husband and apologized profusely (yes, he should have caught something this obvious)and I would be lying if I said I am not nervous about this being repaired properly, knowing how these workers rush to get the houses finished by settlement. I am not there to check, so I have to trust it will be done properly. Yes, you are right about mistakes that the homeowner never knows about - because the repairs are done right and there is no evidence of a repair. Sometimes, issues don't manifest themselves until way down the road. Should we indicate our concerns about the Hardi-Plank and not wanting many seams on the exterior? I certainly don't want small pieces of the plank and a choppy look! Thanks for your input. Husband is not concerned, but he is not the one who will have to be here and drive 4+ hours to meet these guys down the road if repairs need to be done! It will be me and I am trying to avoid that!!...See MoreLooking for dark brown Landmark roof for new construction
Comments (2)We had a new roof put on our house in late January 2016. We chose Gerard Stone Coated Steel, in the Canyon Shake series. (Since then, the company was merged with Boral and the it is now known as Boral Steel Stone Coated Roofing; with the particular product known as Pine-Crest Shake. Color names are the same, although the color selection has been cut down to only six.) We looked at the colors online, and there were a few colors we really liked, and one in particular. Then we got a list of homes in the area that have Canyon Shake roofs, and the list indicated which color each home has. So, one weekend we spent hours driving around looking at roofs. And we were totally amazed that the roof color we thought we liked best from the online photos was the one we liked the least after seeing it in person. The color looked totally different. And we ended up choosing a color (Timberwood) that looked great in person, but we hadn't liked all that much when just viewing the photos on the website. So, what you should do is contact roofers in your area and ask for a list of homes that have the product installed so that you can look at them in person. Make your color selection from what you see in person, not online....See MoreLooking for new construction vinyl window recommendations
Comments (10)The Okna 600 comes in both replacement and new construction., its a great window. I also like your other options such as soft lite LS or Elements and Sunrise. higher end vinyl will render the best performance numbers and will have an advantage over wood windows in that regard. The key is sticking to higher end vinyl and the brands we mentioned certainly meet that....See MoreLandscape lighting install in new construction build looks terrible.
Comments (6)A couple of thoughts: Did you install electrical receptacles on the sides of the house that these transformers could be plugged into? They're probably installed where they are, though, to have the shortest wiring runs to the fixtures. If you didn't know transformers are needed for landscape lighting, it was left to the contractor's discretion where to put them. I guess he could have asked where you wanted them, but that's one of those things that is in the noise level of a new build. If they can't be moved to someplace less annoying to you, have them spray-painted to match the house. Beyond that, plant a small, evergreen shrub in front of each one and they'll disappear....See MoreMark Bischak, Architect
