Blew out ceiling to vaulted ceiling, and now it leaks. Any advice?

We renovated 5 years ago and in that reno, we took out the low ceiling in kitchen, which is now a high, slanted ceiling. By removing the low ceiling, a big pipe had to be relocated to the roof. Since then, our kitchen ceiling has leaked twice, maybe even 3x; the rain drips from a single light in the ceiling. The contractor fixed it with new sealant and now that it has happened again, he said we need to reseal every 3-5 years. It gets very hot here and the sealant is weakened. Is this normal when opening a ceiling and relocating a pipe to the outside or is there a way to permanently fix this?
