Comments (7)When I made the only string quilt I have ever made (Bonnie Hunter's String X quilt), I cut the individual blocks to size and then removed the paper. The blocks definitely "grew" after the paper was removed, and I had to trim them again before I could sew them to the non-string parts of the final block. I would think that if you sewed the string segments to the non-string segments while the paper was still present and then removed the paper, your blocks might have puckers in them. Just my thoughts on the subject....See MoreQOTD - How long could you sew...
Comments (14)Sounds like everyone buys batting by the roll. I just did that very thing for the first time and probably the last time. LOL! I have lots of thread, some of Connecting Threads collections. Needles, rulers all good. And fabric I will never run out of especially for scrap quilts. While making the masks these past weeks, I have gone through my bins and found pieces that I don't remember buying. And some that I wondered why I bought. If I am making a special quilt such as DGDs’ wedding quilt, then I will shop for new fabric. I do use flannel for the chemo quilt backings so I do have to shop for that. Connecting threads used to have some that I liked but they have dropped that from their inventory. The only other fabric I buy when I see it on sale is neutrals, such as WOW. Scrappies often need a good amount of a light to let the colours shine. And like Sharon, I need a body that will let me sew for longer than an hour or two before it gives up. Comments (5)I've been trying to think which quilt is my favorite, and I'm having a hard time. With almost 90 projects so far, I'm having trouble coming up with just one. So... here are four. Winter Snow from Not Your Grandmother's Log Cabin. I cut all 600 pieces wrong and had to improvise. A total scrappy except for the blue borders. I made it for my step-daughter. Baby Honu, which I made for myself, but gave to my sister when I saw her face when she looked at it. The turtles legs, head and tail are floppy, i.e., not sewn down. Bonnie Hunter's Star Struck, another total scrappy but for the tan border. There must be 100 different fabrics in this one. I kept it for myself. I love it. Maybe the favorite of all - Blushing Aspens. It's all curved piecing, not appliqué. I really enjoyed the quilting on this one, but it was tedious. Made for my sis. She has four of my quilts now....See MoreQOTD 2/25/21 What do you do when...
Comments (6)Love log cabin blocks, and use a special ruler to make them. I will go through my scrap bag and cut small pieces to the sizes required. Mine are organized in plastic bags by color, stacked according to size. When I accumulate enough of say, pink, I make a pile of pink and white blocks for baby quilts. If you make a number at once, they can be string pieced. I also have a number of Wee Care gowns, so in half an hour I can hem one or sew on the neck binding....See Moreloisflan
