insults and compliments
Comments (65)I moved into my current house three years ago. The previous owner had one Mock orange in the front. Three HUGE junipers, and the rest rock. Well, we worked on one half of the yard and made it all into a flower garden. My hubby liked it so much, he said I could do the same to the other side. When we started to pull out the huge junipers, we had several neighbors ask if we were going to put grass on that side. When I said no, that it would be all flowers, trees and shrubs, they looked at me like I was crazy. Some even said the silly nonsense, "too much work!!" and "won't that take too much water?" Three years later, these same neighbors come to me for advice, look through the gardens to see what's coming up at certain times, and then ask me for the names of the plants. I received my best compliment earlier this week, actually. We have a home daycare that is caddy corner to our house across the street. The guy that drops off and picks up his child walked over to me when I was pulling weeds and said how gorgeous everything looked and how it was an inspiration to rip out some of the sod and plant flowers in his own yard. How he and is wife loved to drive by it everyday to see new things blooming. This absolutely made all of the hard work the past three years worth it. I'm hoping this year is the year that it leaps and I can get the satisfaction from looking at it myself. Ha!...See MoreWould you think this is insulting?
Comments (36)It took my grandma a few years to stop addressing cards to me as Mrs. David E. I would send them back. When she called, I told her she has always called me Meghan before I got married, I didn't change my first name to David, I only changed my last name (mostly so it wouldn't be the same as my dead-beat sperm donor) and could she PLEASE not use the title MRS as it makes me feel old (I got married at 20 and did not and still don't think of myself as a MRS). After all, he isn't Mr. Meghan E. On the very few occasions that a telemarketer calls and asks for Mrs. E I tell them that is my MIL and she doesn't live here and hang up. I go my Ms. or Dr. I don't talk to unsolicited callers and if they don't know enough to call me by my preferred title, I don't know them enough to talk to them. And yes, since YOU were the one who initialized the contact I would be VERY insulted that the quote was not addressed to me. I would call them and tell them that their serious disrespect has made me look for a new company to deal with. I was on the phone with a client who repeatedly called me Honey. I gave him once as a slip-up, but the second time I interrupted him with "That's DOCTOR Honey to you, sir." He was very respectful after that. They never call my boss anything other than Dr. G, and I demand and deserve the same respect....See MoreFrozen Bedroom, Porch Insultation Problem?
Comments (5)In view 2, towards the master bedroom/closests, can you get over there or see over there? If so, get someone up there at night and turn out the lights in the attic. Have someone downstairs go in each closet with a good, strong flashlight and the lights on and shine it around any fixtures where they hit the sheetrock. If you can't see any light above, take them off and see if they are sealed underneath. I also suspect that leaky headers, where the outside walls meet the roof of the closet and master, may be letting air into the wall cavity there, too....See MoreMoving, none of my wall art goes with my new home colors
Comments (24)I use Blick Gallery frames for the art in my husbands office. These open easily in the back. I use thick ones, so cut pieces of foam board to take up the excess space and use an acid free mat. I also use a thin piece of acid free foam board behind the print. They are very economical and very simple in style. They might be too simple compared with the frames you have now, but that may work with your new home style and give you time to slowly reframe your art. If your art is mostly framed prints, opening the back and changing out the mat is not difficult in many cases....See Moreturtlexings24
