Laying Mole Mesh

User

Moles have damaged the lawn and created a real mess. Have decided to buy some galvanised wire with 13mm square holes to keep them out and protect the lawn. We have 6 inches of good quality topsoil under the lawn. My plan is this, could you tell me if you think it might work? . Dig up the turf and put aside, then Dig up the remaining 3 inches or so of topsoil until hitting the hardcore beneath.
Put the dug up turf upside down on top of the hardcore then backfill with the 2 inches of topsoil. Lay the mole wire and then top with the remaining 1 inch of soil before buying new turf to lay. Disposing of 42 sqm of old turf and then buying loads more topsoil is working out so expensive. I'm hoping this would be a cheaper and more efficient alternative, although very hard work!
