White cabinets that aren't white
Comments (12)No, it's not ugly. These are just hard colors to get to photograph well and the differences are subtle. Your first photo is more beige than real life and second too blue. The real question here is when you look at the these colors in your kitchen space with your lighting/natural light, do you like them? I'm assuming you meant that he Edgecomb Gray is lighter than the Revere Pewter. The Torquay is beautiful, the White Dove is a classic, and the Revere Pewter is a good choice for a wall. Even if you got tired of the Pewter, changing a wall color is easy. The big question is the cabinet color. It just has to be something you won't look at in 5 years and say, "What was I thinking?" We've just done a bunch of grays/blue-grays in our house, and gray is a lot trickier than you'd ever imagine. I think you might want to get a largish piece of scrap wood or plywood, paint it the Edgecomb Gray, park it in your kitchen and see what you think. I think I like it, but would I like it for all the cabinets? Not sure. Try it out. P.S. When we were choosing a trim color, we chose BM Bavarian Cream, which I've never seen on here as someone else's trim color. It was just right next to our Kashmir Gold counter, and the blues in the kitchen plus the blue-grays elsewhere. Despite the "cream" name, it has no yellow-y undertones and looks softly, but definitely white. Go figure....See MoreStumped on bedroom window treatment: Roman shades plus side panel
Comments (4)I guess I'm not sure what you mean by "marooned" but I checked out roman blinds on the Bali site and I couldn't see the mechanicals at all and they even offer a cordless version which--if it is like the cordless cellular blinds, there is nothing to see and they are very clean and streamline looking. I have provided a link to the "Photo Gallery". I thought that pictures 64,65, and 66 all looked pretty finished and one even looked like an outside mount. Try out their "My Decorator" tool to see all of your colors together. It allows you try out the swatches and then Bali will send them to you for free. Comments (1)Thermal functionality (keep chill out in winter, afternoon sun out during summer) is important to me Rule out plantation shutters…no thermal. In your photo, all your window trims are at different heights. You need to hang the rod the same for all windows. For dining room side window and bay front window, choose thermal lined to the floor panels which you can close when needed. Windows over sink…Roman shade, thermal lined, hung at the same height as the others. Good example…all treatments hung at the same height.(Roman will have to be an outside mount). Comments (4)My romans never looked wrinkled. They have a blackout liner that gives them some heft, so maybe that is the difference. However, they allow a lot of light to come in at the sides since they do not sit flush with the window frame. I have roller shades under them, but they are not light blocking since they make the room too dark during the day. I have privacy issues and can't just open everything. I curse my neighbors who refuse to turn off their flood light at night!...See Moreamyb29
