MSI Calacutta Valentin - does it read grey??

Fell in love with this slab at the showroom and in pictures, but worry all the marbling will read too grey against my nuetral/warm white cabinets (i have grey flooring with touches of oak coloring dispersed throughout and warm lighting/barely any natural light in my kitchen- cabinets lean warm white because of the lighting). It seems a lot more grey in the showroom than in people’s pictures online (and more grey than the sample they gave me). Is Prado a safer choice since it has the same warm background/veining, but less of the marbling?? my island is 12’ and I’m doing a waterfall edge so what butts up against my floor matters and i dont want grey.

IMO first fix the lighting since yellow cast lighting skews any color matching you might want and you need to choose a slab of the plastic counter you want . IMO a nice real stone polished is a huge improvement over fake stone . I sure hope you kitchen is very contemporary since IMO that is the only time waterfall counters work and fake stone does not lend itself to matching veining on the drop edge of a waterfall which BTW is neccessary IMO So mkae sure all of that is considered too.

I think your mom's signature on the paper can be safely ignored. Many people sign off on a job and then realize it was a mistake. I've done it myself and gotten the contractor to fix it. Once I signed off on a breakfast bar granite in the kitchen but then realized they had put it in too close to the faucet hole and I couldn't install the faucet. They came back and moved the granite because they should have realized it extended too far over the faucet hole. I also signed off on a bathroom granite install where they had covered a half inch gap with clear caulk which was white when they left. I didn't see the gap until it dried. I got them to come back and replace it but didn't get full satisfaction until the owner came out. While he was there I pointed out several other errors that I had thought I could live with but bugged me more and more over time. He agreed to fix those also. Push to have the owner of the company come out and see the job. It is really hard for an owner to say that the brand new counter tops his company installed with cracks all around the faucet holes is the type of work he wants to be known for. Your mom could have thought the cracks would disappear when the epoxy dried, or her eyesight may not be good enough to see them or like you said she trusted the contractor to fix it and make it look like new. Clearly it doesn't. A chip filled with epoxy I would accept. Cracks clear through the granite running from the hole to the outside I would not. Wow, that is gorgeous! The CMKBD that we've hired to help us with our remodel recommended large format porcelain tiles to us because of their durability and high tolerance to heat (we've had a porcelain tiled island for nearly 20 years and I know it's going to be difficult to train the family to start using trivets). Another plus, IMO, is that undermount sinks aren't so far below the counter as they are with granite or quartz counters. I'd rather reach in only 9-3/4" to 10" to the bottom of the Silgranite sink I've selected than nearly 11". The former will be very close to the reach for my current sink and I know that hasn't been an issue for my back. I am a fabricator. If the fabricator has to buy slabs specifically for your job then whatever is left over is waste you pay for. Slabs are typically 55 -65 sq. ft. and many kitchens fall into the 50 - 75 sq. ft. range so more than one slab is needed. Your best opportunity for the lowest price is working with a fabricator that stocks a color you want as he can use one full slab plus a partial slab as the leftover material goes back into his inventory for the next job. Given the preceding it is still to you advantage to shop different fabricators as pricing can vary significantly from shop to shop. The fabricators that sell only a single brand will almost always be the highest price per sq. ft.

I found this thread when searching on Houzz for Calacatta Ida, just saying thanks to everyone for the information sharing! I have a few quartz colors by MSI that I'm considering (and a few by Cosmos). Since I think this thread is about a year old, I was curious if there was an updated list of the MSI quartz colors that use Breton technology, so I emailed MSI. After a few frustrating email exchanges (the customer service rep on the email had no idea what I was asking for based on her replies) someone from MSI called me and said they do not give out the list because it is proprietary information She said once I narrow down my choices I can email them a list of colors I'm considering and they will let me know which of those use Breton. She also tried to tell me that it doesn't matter if it uses Breton, all MSI quartz are covered by the same warranty, but I feel if the product is superior to begin with (and fabricated and installed correctly) there is less chance of something going wrong and needing to use the warranty! Plus in my experience, many companies make it very hard to use the warranty, they come up with excuses. Just my opinion. Again thanks to all contributors on this post, very helpful with my decision making! :-)

@Suki Mom well i did! But when she handed me the sample in the showroom i noticed how much lighter it looked than the actual slab.. so dont feel like i can really trust it lol

@Patricia Colwell Consulting i dont think my lighting needs fixing. i much prefer warm lighting over harsh flourescents. As to natural v fake stone- my post was regarding a quartz material so obviously that is what is in my budget so your comment is not helpful. The Calacutta Valentin and Prado both look very natural compared to other quartz materials and thats why im going in that direction. Lastly, concerning the waterfall, my home is eclectic and i have seen waterfalls done in many settings that are not extremely contemporary- maybe when they first came out but now they are being incorporated into all kinds of settings so im going to disagree there.

I am looking at Valentin too, in fact about to go to MSI. Does it read grey? I am thinking of pairing it with taupe/cappuccino/beige floor tiles and creamy ivory cabinets in a bathroom. If it at all comes off grey, I don't think I can do it. My 2 samples have brownish veining, but the slabs they showed me have dark grey veining. I'm not sure I feel comfortable confirming 3 of those slabs. The sales associate assures me they are all alike. I don't think so - brown veining vs grey is quite obvious. And does the background of the slabs read pale grey? Thanks for all who can help with this.
