double vanity vs double shower?
Comments (6)Agree you benefit more from second sink vs larger shower-- most people looking to purchase that house will anticipate a smaller shower in house that age/size---so having a double sink will be appreciated... Have you considered doing something more unconventional -- i.e. using a trough sink that you can add two faucets to vs two conventional sinks design Saw a guest/child's bathroom where a double sink was used that was a stand alone (no cabinetry)--forget the name for that-- You could add storage either with a taller cabinet or shelving I think much of conventional sink cabinetry is wasteful --drawers are much more functional than the open storage in the bottom cabinet which is really just enclosing the plumbing... consider adding a unit that has wicker baskets or just drawers on either side with glass ledge under the mirror... IF space is at a premium then maximizing storage should be of primary concern in bathroom......See MoreFarm-house sink Vs double bowl sink
Comments (11)Believe me, there are NO plumbing issues involved. What MAY be an issue is finding a hardware store--or other source--for the parts you need to do a changeover. The best thing you can do for yourself is get down and climb under your present sink, the neighbor's sink, your family member's sinks, and familiarize yourself with the plumbing that's under there !! While you're down there, check for leaks, and use a ruler/tape measure to get an idea of sizes. Bathroom sinks are usually 1 1/4" diameter thinwall pipe; the tub/shower and the kitchen sink are, or should be, 1 1/2". One thing to remember: the 1 1/2" thinwall pipe hooked directly to the bottom of your sink, and tied into the "S" or "P" traps under there, is NOT NOT NOT the same as the 1 1/2" drain piping; HOWEVER--there are adapters to mate the thinwall to the heavier piping. By the way, you ARE gonna go to the store and find out what a "P" or "S" trap is, aincha?? Dont be afraid to ask Q's, and do realize many of the guys you ask are about as ignorant as you are when it comes to plumbing....many--not all of 'em. THEN: when you find somebody who sounds like (s)he can help you do this project, and they put down on paper the parts you need, the best thing you can do is repeat the process--go find somebody else at another store who can do likewise, and then compare the parts recommended, &c. Maybe this soundz like plumbing 101--you're right, it is. Anything else spellz disaster in the making, not to mention the resultant feeling you bin ripped off and jerked around, and that you coulda done a better job yourself.... if only.... you'd taken to heart the suggestion of: kenn 1RmSchlHse millersport oHIo -- there's a time and place for spontaneity.......See MoreDouble bowl vs. single bowl sink?
Comments (30)I have a 65/35 double sink which I would not trade for a single since I use it for both prep and clean every day, and don't like the idea of having raw meat and dirty veggies in the main sink I use for cleanup at the same time. But there are about 4 to 6 occasions per year that I wish I had a larger sink ... especially when I want to soak my 20" rangetop grill. What I did was bought a super-large roasting pan (24x14) that I can use as a temporary "large soaking sink" when I want to clean the grill. Got that idea last Easter when I realized that's how I washed my 17" roasting pan ... i.e., filled it with soapy water and let it soak on the counter beside the sink. Thought then, "hey if only this was bigger I could wash the grill at the same time". So I bought a bigger one, and now I have the best of all worlds that works for me....See MoreSingle vs double basin farmhouse sink
Comments (6)I have a single basin apron front sink and love it:) However, I would have preferred a low divide if I had been able to get the smaller side on the left due to the placement of my dishwasher on the right (opposite of Joe's pic above), but my sink did not come with the option to pick which side would be smaller in the uneven divide sink. If you get the low divide and also get the grills, the smaller side can work as an occasionally needed dish drainer....See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
