Dishwasher, Microwave, Washer Dryer need suggestions please
Comments (4)I posted this earlier on another post so I thought I'd repost it here as is somewhat applies. The best washer would be a front load. Frigidaire or Lg. The Best dryer would be a Whirlpool with the lint filter on top. Same design for 40 years, a good quality product. But, only if you get the one with a timer and no electronics. All dryers heat at the same temp. If it got any hotter it would burn the house down. All dryers tumble the same speed. If it tumbled any faster it would be spinning the clothes. Why people spend up to a thousand for a dryer is beyond me. They all work the same, they dry clothes. But they do pay me $400.00 to fix them. YOU CAN GET A NEW DRYER FOR $350.00!!! New topload washers fill for wash and only fill half way for rinse. Its a government thing to save energy. The "energy efficient" top load washer with no agitator like the cabrio, well, its one of my favorite brands. Every one needs a new mainboard, tub springs go out, main bearing goes out. Get a quarter in the pump, pump is shot. The touch pad will fail. All day, everyday customers ask me what are the best appliances because their expensive two year old appliance is broke. I always tell them the cheapest ones. If a frig is full of electronics it will break and cost 2-4 hundred to repair it. A basic simple no fancy electronic frig will last. Whirlpool or Frigidaire. The fancier the range the better for me. Keep it simple. All ovens heat at 350 degrees. It seems today everyone is a chef, must be all those cooking shows. They buy $2000.00 ranges and pay me $400.00 to fix them. I love it. People pay big bucks on a dishwasher with all those buttons but only use the normal cycle. I don't get it. A mid line whirlpool is a good dishwasher. All dishwashers work about the same. Water comes in, sprays around, and drains. Its not magic. If you like the Bosch, Samsung, Miele, asko etc. make sure there are people in town that repair them. I'm like the only LG servicer in my area which means I can charge more to repair them. No competition, business 101. There are only a couple of people in my area that will repair Samsung refrigerators, bosch, asko, etc. And they are not cheap. Everyone repairs Whirlpool and Frigidaire. I live in an area with over 500,000 people so its not like we're in a small town out in the boonies. Talk to an independent local servicer that doesn't sell appliances and he can advise you on the appliances that he has the least problems with. You won't find too many appliance tech's that own GE. Their parts are the most expensive in the industry. Whirlpool, Frigidaire and even LG parts are reasonable. Fischer Paykel. There again one maybe two companies repair them. The only place I can find parts for them is from Fischer paykel and they're in New Zealand. Takes about 3 weeks to get parts. I just picked up a customer with apartments full of Viking. Viking controls their part distribution so only one part supplier on the east coast carries the parts. No competition means expensive parts which equals expensive repairs. Its a great time to be an appliance repairman. I was never this busy in the 90's with the simple basic appliances. All those new fancy electronic appliances keep me very busy....See MoreNeed advise on new washer and dryer purchase
Comments (1)Um, first some unsolicited comments: if you do a lot of laundry now with three children 18mo to 4yrs old, then the number and size of your loads will be increasing over the next ten years. Size and efficiency will become more important to you. I don't think anyone knows what the best front loader is, consumer reports says LG; Bosches and Duets (which I think are the same as Kenmore HEsomethings) are also popular. ALL seem to have durability problems so I think it is essential to buy a service plan/extended warranty for five years. Prices vary on the service plans, consider that while shopping for machines. Buy from someone who services what they sell, or will replace the machine if they can't service it. Spend money on the washer, go cheap and reliable with the dryer (but get the largest capacity). I like my combo of an LG washer and Kenmore dryer but I'm sure there are other good choices. If I had to do it over again I might look harder at stacking, seems like a good way to use space. I don't think pedestals are necessary. Good luck to you!...See MoreNeed advice re new washer and dryer
Comments (3)Thanks for the comment GregRod It doesn't look as if that WA484 model is available in Canada - it's not on the Samsung Canada web site and all I see on google are US sites. I went through the Samsung Canada website to pick out all the dryers with air fluff AND steam. Then looked at the major retailers to see who was selling which models at some reasonable price. The Samsung 431 set for instance lists at $2698 but the selling price at one retailer is $1698 for that set. I'm sure not willing to pay full list. I have been at this, on and off for almost a week - seaching through the net and visiting a number of stores. It really gets me that most sets, I would say 80% are that grey colour. The Samsung 431 set is listed as "Stainless Platinum", I wonder if it really is 'stainless steel' or if that is just a marketing blurb. I wish I hadn't read that many bad comments about the Whirlpool Duets or I would have bought that set already....See MorePlease suggest an efficient dryer (need washer too)
Comments (13)My former dryer was doing like yours too, though my husband cleaned it thoroughly (even taking the back off), plus cleaning out the full length of the hose. He did that at least three times in a month. We checked on what it would cost to repair it, and it was almost as cheap to replace it -- plus, I had always had a problem with the 'handle' to the lint filter breaking. My washer had also seen its better days, its repair cost was also way too high to warrant putting more money into it, so I came here (among several other websites and IRL sources) to research washers and dryers. I ended up buying a Maytag Bravos washer and dryer, and I couldn't be happier. My family is large and I needed a huge capacity washer -- mine is 4.6 cu ft and holds three times more laundry than my former one. Yet it uses FAR less water and energy than my old washer. Whereas I used to wash 7-10+ loads per week, I now wash 3-4 loads weekly, at most. The dryer holds it all well too (7 cu ft), and both of them do a fantastic job on my laundry. All the features I needed are on both. I didn't get steam in either because I don't need it. They are both made much better than my old w/d. I have never been happier. I hope your GE set is as good to you as my Maytags have been to me. :-)...See Moremoosemac
