Master Bedroom Refresh- Please help with bedding advice!
Comments (15)Back with an update! We were able to move our nightstands back into the room. I was also able to start putting together blue & white bedding to see how it would look, as I already had some components on hand and I was able to scoop up a quilt the other day that I really liked the texture and colors of. You can also see the night stands and how they look with the bed. We had to top them with grey in order to cover up some damage to the tops as we were repainting them. The other option was to sand and re-stain them, and we were trying to avoid that. So far, I'm liking how the blue & white is coming together. In order to complete the look, I am thinking that a blue comforter and blue shams with some sort of textural look would be a great final touch, along with a few new throw pillows to pull it together on the bed. The coverlet in the last picture is a very light one that I had in storage that I just put there temporarily to visualize a blue comforter until I can settle on one. I was also thinking of switching out the sheets to a pale aqua or grey to add interest to the bed. Future plans also include changing out the lamps or repainting the bases antique gold or something to bring some warmth and such to the room.. but I'd like to get the bed figured out first! :) PS we got the bed this past weekend, and I LOVE it! It was a great buy! Currently, I am going between several shades of blue, etc. for the comforter and shams. I am going between this navy chenille set Or one of these pin tucked style comforters in either the bright blue or the navy or even a light blue or, lastly, this "blue" (that's what the description says, I'm not sure if it is blue, but we will see!!!) chenille comforter I really love the look of the navy chenille in the picture, but I'm worried about it looking dark in the room but then at the same time, all of the furniture will be white, etc... soooo?? Next step will be window treatments... which I need to figure out as well... but I'd like to get the bed figured out first! Any thoughts? I've kind of pulled this color palette together.. so I'm going to try to pull it all together with this. This particular artist even sells throw pillows of this painting... so that's a thought. Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks!...See MoreMaster Bedroom needs a refresh. Please help!
Comments (216)Guess what?! Shower curtain arrived from Etsy yesterday and it looks great! Colors are even better in person than online. Copper and brown colors tie in with the tile perfectly and it brings much needed gray, white, and blue. Love! It is a little long, but I can easily re-hem. The Pottery Barn Odin rug wasn’t so lucky. The colors are kind of turquoise-y and sea glass green. So next I’m shopping for a 3’ x 5’ rug with gray-blue in it. Speaking of shopping...also need to look for art for the bedroom wall. The replacement one arrived, also with dents to the frame. Hubby brought it in from the porch and said, “Wow, this box is mangled!”...See MoreIs having 2 master bedrooms by reducing # of bedrooms a pro or a con?
Comments (24)Multiple thoughts, not all in line with the majority: - Five bedrooms is a huge house. The potential field of buyers who want the space and upkeep of a house that large (and who can afford it) is relatively small. More plainly, You're looking to build a house that only a small percentage of buyers can afford to buy. Wanting a thing and being able to afford a thing aren't the same. Your pool of resale buyers will be small, so selling could take a long time, or you might be forced to take less than you want. - Yes, people will like the idea of a "master up and a master down": live-in space for mom, space for a live-in nanny or elder care-giver. Plenty of reasons people would like the space. But the real question is, Will your resale buyer be willing to pay what it will cost you to build it? Personally, I think you'll attract plenty of interest, but you may not attract the necessary dollars at resale to make this worthwhile. - How old are these small children? By the time you finish building this house, they'll probably be at least a year older -- how long will you want to have bedrooms close by? - I'm a highly practical person: you're talking about a short time when kids are small. To save money, could you sleep in a "non-master" upstairs for this short time, then move downstairs? - How "master" do you see your "masters"? That is, when you say "master bedroom", are you envisioning a slightly larger room with a modest walk-in closet and a private 3-piece bath ... or does "master" to you mean a spacious room with a seating area, a massive closet and a luxury bath? The question isn't just, "Should I have two masters?" It's, "Just how much will I put into a master?" Your own vision of "how much" can make a world of difference in this question. - Don't overbuild for your neighborhood. Remember that the biggest, most expensive house in the neighborhood is "drawn down" by the more modest houses that surround it. - Summary: Don't be caught up in just whether this is a desirable idea -- it is. Consider first and foremost whether it is an economically viable idea....See MoreNeed help on a small addition master bedroom and master bath 19x19
Comments (13)We're adding a slightly larger master suite (20x26) that also includes reconfiguring the original space to create a hallway entrance next to an existing hall bath. Our architect configured the space so that the new master bath abuts the existing hall bath, presumably to minimize the plumbing work etc, as in the 2nd sketch by @er612. She also aligned the new master closet with the existing space which just helps as a sound buffer. The rest of the layout was decided based on views - optimal placement of windows, strategic placement of the bathroom door, having wall space for a TV if you want that....See MoreKW PNW Z8
