Foliage arrangements looks more haphazard than Dawn Redwood. DR has opposite foliage. Bald Cypress is plenty neat in its own right. If the climate is zone 5 plus I would consider planting Dawn Redwood nearby to be a noble experiment. It likes wet sites but not being in the water like Bald Cypress best I can tell. Dawn Redwood also has been reduced to select valleys in China so your valley might be a good spot for it.

Aloha all, Yes I'm afraid that I geeked out a little on the description. I will admit to having a science background but enjoy other interests (www.ukuleles.com - my website). I've been reading Jean Andrews' "Pepper" book and then got involved with the Lucid 3.3 software (a free software program for creating a biological key) so I decided WTH who knows who reads these posts and put in the descriptors. He is wrong. The PD fungus merely infects the developing drupelets of the fruits - it's not disseminated throughout the plant. Control - if you can achieve it - is accomplished by removing and disposing of affected fruits, and possibly by spraying with a fungicide. But... if you desire mulberry fruits, you could remove that tree and replace with a pure M.rubra, which seems to be less affected, if not immune, to infection with this particular fungal agent. PD is worse some years than others, but once it appears, it's usually there to stay. Imagine trying to find, remove and dispose of all the affected fruits on a tree 30 ft tall and 40 ft wide... I just can't get 'em all.
