April 2021 in my hosta garden
Comments (117)utog..another silhouette pic!..this one's great too!.. your garden's looking good!..we had 2 inches of rain Wed night..I had standing water (common in our high water table neighborhood) in my usual spots..so I didn't walk around in back today.. my still unclipped ratty winter foliage on an Autumn fern..they're slow for me.. the Japanese Painted ferns look fresher than the Autumns beside them..maybe because the Japanese Painted ferns die back?.. n2hostas..my green ginger is a good spreader..plant it with some space..but my craziest groundcover is this Lamium galeobdolon..can you see the variegated plant behind this bleeding heart?..that's it.. miles..there was a post a long time ago where someone used a wide shallow container for mini's and had success.. when I clean, weed and top with compost these plants will look prettier.....See MoreBest Purple Daylilies of 2021
Comments (37)Houzz does not seem to want to post my pictures, maybe it will let me just write a little bit I have All of My Love to You, can't wait it mine looks like that, Debra. I have debated before on getting Reckless Girls but always talk myself out of it, but what a clump! Bluegrass Shadows looks so pretty, but I think I heard it does not grow that well? Love your Laura Harwood, Sherry. Mine did well this year, 2nd year I think for me. Nancy, Absolute Ripper is another I keep talking myself out of, but regretting that now. Man Eating Bat looks great Kate, I have always liked the look of Larry's Obsession, but it died for me and I have not tried it again. I got Love Struck this fall, hope mine survives. Garden Butterfly is gorgeous Celeste, Thunder Glow was on my wish list, but you are not the only one who mentioned splotches, so it quickly came off. Love Olly Olly Oxen free and Claudine's Charm. Claudine died last year, I may replace that on. I think a big mole dug under it. Brad, Kirsten's Corsage always looks good for you, and I like Liberty Banner David, Mystery of the Ages is gorgeous I will see if Houzz will let me post a few pictures by editing Back Scratcher has done well for me Blue Voodoo has done really well, expecially since it is really crowded by another plant. I know I took better pictures than this one Enduring Freedom always does well, occasionally it splotches but not often since I moved it Coach's Magic Man has increased well in its 2nd season, bloomed and rebloomed both years I have had it. This will b e nice when it becomes a nice clump Filled to Overflowing almost died a couple of years ago, went down to 1 fan, but is a nice clump this year and bloomed over 6 weeks Westbourne Chip off the Old Block is as great as Kay promised, bloomed for almost 2 months with rebloom Green Rainbow Kierabel is a lighter purple with deeper purple in it, so I may have it in the wrong category. It is a great plant though, has multiplied really well and bloomed great Westbourne REvivals does well Make it Snappy did great this year...See MoreBest Patterned Daylilies of 2021
Comments (13)David - The Ultimate Illusion has a very unique pattern. Thanks for posting it. Nan - Your Curious Cutie seedlings are beautiful! I have a lot more patterned daylilies. I'll show a few more, and some of my patterned seedlings. Rainbow Maker is a strong grower and a good rebloomer. Facemaker didn't do much this year, but I it didn't get in the ground until late October. I hope it will have more buds next year when it's more settled. Bragging Rights has a very large bloom, but the scapes were short and it didn't have many buds. I hope it will do better when I get it out of a pot and in to the ground. This is my favorite seedling from the cross of Aztec Headdress x Banded Broadbill. It has a 7-inch bloom and rebloomed this time. Another patterned seedling I like is Dragonfly Dawn x Bowtie Affair. This was its first year to bloom, and it had bud counts in the mid teens and rebloomed. This one is (Redefined Design x Blue Eyed Bandit) x (Palace Garden Beauty x Karelia) - First-time bloomer that also rebloomed. Texas Blue Eyes x Violet Tranquility - This one is a four-year-old with bud counts in the 20s, but it's a slow multiplier. Cowgirl Spurs X Stinger (Palace Garden Beauty x Karelia) x This Longing #1 Two others from the cross of (PGB x Karelia) X This Longing: Debra...See MoreDecember 2021 Week 2: And that's the way it is!
Comments (64)Larry, I love roselle after only growing it for a year. I needed to dig it out with a shovel so Rick could till the area. It had pretty massive roots. Churches are in a hard situation with the mask wearing rule. Would Jesus refuse people without a mask? I don't know. But, it's more complicated than that. Ours pretty much says wear it if you feel more comfortable wearing it. They provide masks at the doors and you can pick up communion so you don't have to get up to go to a communion table. But those tables are pretty spread out and people seem respectful about letting others get theirs before getting too close. I typically wear my mask. I teach children's classes and it's not easy teaching them in a mask and singing with them and all. Probably half of our people wear masks. We have a very large auditorium so it's easy to spread out. Our congregation is much smaller than it used to be, so the auditorium is way too big, but it works for covid situation because it allows for the spreading out of people. And we have had several people who have had covid once or twice and they have been vaccinated. I don't know what the answer is. It's all so frustrating. And there's other things floating around--some type of non-covid/non-flu virus that makes people feel like crap for days, and also a stomach bug. I love that song too, Nancy! Can you just wear a double mask to your church event? And stay apart from others? Or is your church normally shoulder-to-shoulder? And it would be nice if all of us lived close to each other. Rick and I are fortunate that we live so close to each other. Jen, I for sure want to come visit! Not this month, but soon and I'll bring that thing. You can check it out and see if it's something you can use. I also enjoy the pics of Larry's little dog baby. Danny, I'm sorry you're still so sick. Nancy, you're right about keeping thoughts to oneself. I just have so many thoughts that they start to bubble out and I want to discuss them with someone else. I have a couple of friends that I don't get to see often who are weird like me and aren't offended to discuss things that might challenge beliefs in many areas. It's not an easy thing to find in people. Oh my word, Amy! It was the strip that was messed up! Oh well, at least you have back up tablets now! That's great news that the momma and puppies have been adopted or are in other foster homes. I'm always so tempted to take a foster when I see Forever Yours is asking for help. I simply can't take care of one more pet right now, though. The only pet I sought out--other than the chickens--is Finbar. The others were rehomed to me. Josi was a foster, but the rescue got grumpy when I tried to return her to the pool of adoptable/fostered dogs. So, we kept her. Adopted her. We've had issues already this morning with Ethan's car, so I'm hoping for a good outcome. It's a very old car, but we really need it to keep going for another year or so. There's always something, right?...See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
