Found a Cheap Propane Heater - Tues and Wednesday only!
Comments (43)Lord luv a duck.....isn't this about the third (or maybe more) repeat of this discussion in the last three or four years? Hey Rob - glad to see you still around. Looks like you haven't killed too many brain cells with your unvented heater.... :o) Nathan - love your postings. Don't see you carrying a lot of baggage or prejudice into them, but do see you using common sense together with a scientific way of thinking. I have come to realize (through experience) that common sense is sometimes left at the road side by some people the higher their level of formal education is. As to your statement of "Tradesmen often suggest what they are comfortable with, what they've used...", can also sometimes be tied to what company (brand) gives them the best "goodies". Same holds true with the (usually) new meds doctors prescribe so freely. stressbaby - Evidently you are in the medical field. Now, I agree scientific evidence is very important, but so is common sense. Let's be realistic - the scientific evidence collected by the experts (and I have come to use that term loosely, especially when talking about some governmental agencies) which was generated by the studies on the safety of Vioxx for human consumption really didn't amount to diddly squat, did it! Now, before you become unhinged on me, don't you think that rather than continuing to label unvented heaters as unsafe and undesirable, you might want to work on the statement you made, namely "If it has not already been done, we need a way to accumulate data on the safety of these heaters in hobby greenhouses...we need a way to obtain level II evidence of their safety." I'm sure that people on this site that have vented and unvented heaters would be more than willing to share their experiences in a poll (and no, probably none of us are scientists, but I'm sure we can make "common sense" observations as to the color of flame, odor, plant growth or lack of, did the heater continuously refuse to burn, etc.). Of course I understand we would not be able to do "double blind" studies, but hey, some attempt to collect and interpret data is better than continual *itching and holier than thou attitudes that have on occasion invaded discussion of this particularly volatile subject, don't you think. I'm sure you are quite capable of coming up with questions that could be answered by all of us in a manner that would lead to measurable data. Then, we could just point to the data collection and interpretation of same whenever this question comes up! Actually, it could probably be posted in the FAQ area. That, quite honestly, would be great. cuestaroble - I read the information on the site you gave the link to, and although it stated problems, it also stated correcting measures to take none of them were drastic, and most of them were what ghse owners already have in place. And, of course the plants mentioned showing the damage (tobacco and tomatoes) are two very sensitive plants. Sometimes looking at tomatoes with the head tilted wrong causes them to have problems :o)...just joking, but you know what I mean - they really are sensitive, especially at their early growth stages. stressbaby, I've had a few of those patients in CCU/MICU who had taken Vioxx, and my husband was taking it before his MI. I'm an RN and a small commercial grower. Mary...See MoreMost Cheap Back-Up Heater For Harbor Freight GH
Comments (22)Hi Diane, I'll give you a quick 'run down' of the compatibility of Conifers: All Abies (Firs) graft onto all Abies All Picea's (Spruces) graft onto all Spruces For Pines: They are usually grafted onto species with the same # of needles in a group. For instance: 5-Needled Pines: all of which are compatible with each other...the species that is. 5-Needled speciesinclude: aristata - Bristlecone Pine cembra - Swiss Stone Pine flexilis - Limber Pine koraiensis - Korean Pine parviflora - Japanese White Pine peuce - Balkan Pine pumila - Japanese Stone Pine strobus - Eastern White Pine...most common understock used wallichiana - Himalyan Pine balfouriana - Foxtail Pine Then the next most common group of Pines are the 2-needle species>: densiflora - Japanese Red Pine mugo - Swill Mountain Pne nigra - Austrian Pine resinosa - American Red Pine or Red Pine sylvestris - Scot's Pine banksiana - Jack Pine echinata - Shortleaf Pine pungens - Table Mountain Pine thunbergiana - Japanese Black Pine virginiana - Scrub Pine 3-needled also graft onto 3-needled pines bungeana - Lacebark Pine ponderosa - Ponderosa Pine rigida - Pitch Pine taeda - Loblolly Pine That not all the Pines in the Genus of Pinus but that gives you an idea of many of them. Dirr - Manual of Woody Landscape Plants - Fourth Edition Then all Larix (Larch) graft onto all Larix All true Cedars graft onto Cedrus deodora. For Juniperus... most all strike from cuttings but all 'Junipers' graft onto all junipers. The most common understocks are: species scopulorum & Juniperus x media 'Hetzii'. Metasequoia glyptostroboides (Dawn Redwood) roots from soft-semihard-&Hardwood cuttings or can ge grafted. Bottom Heat is essential and bagging the cuttings for one month and then 3 months without bagging...rooting in about 4 months. I could go on...just email if you want to know more or even better yet check out Coenosium Gardens Webpage for which I'll provide you the link. They have a link for 'Compatibility'... I'll be back Diane, Dax Here is a link that might be useful: Coenosium Gardens - Understock Compatibility...See MoreCheap kiwi trellis ideas?
Comments (4)Thanks guys. Ya, the ground is irregular, not that deep until it hits solid rock, so I don’t want to rely on any kind of ground mount. It has to be pretty much free standing. This makes the wire tension type stuff maybe untenable. Hog panel type approach is maybe doable, although weeds grow like crazy here, so I don’t want them getting tangled up in it. Four thick scaffolding poles make it easy to clear out the area with a brush cutter. Perhaps another approach is to lay down weed fabric around the base? Thin Hog panel type arches are quite reasonable here, about $15 for an 8 x 4‘ section. Flat hog panels about 6 x 4 are under five dollars apiece. Greg, I’m not sure I follow. Your hog panels are like 15 feet long and you arch and anchor them in the ground with steel posts? edit: ok, I the I know what your talking about, I saw some photos. They sell only shorter flat varieties here, like 6x3. The arches are larger (above) but floppy and need support....See MoreCheap storage organization ideas needed....
Comments (13)I saw something like this recently, and in fact posted a pic of it on a thread here--something about a closet under the stairs. Anyway, someone had built a big box that exactly fit into the closet space, just leaving room underneath for some big casters. So they could pull the whole box straight out to access the space behind, without disturbing anything inside the "closet." Theirs was more about being able to access stuff stored at the lower levels, where the angle of the stairs created space deep in the closet that would otherwise be unreachable. However, you have that step at the bottom that comes all the way out to the doorjamb, so you don't really have a place for a unit to roll in. Otherwise, I'd go with the idea to stashing the vacuum there, and out-of-season clothes in big plastic tubs that are easy to pull out. and maybe back-of-the-door storage for things that you need to put your hands on quickly in that area....See Morevgkg Z-7 Va
