Miele Oven Temperatures - Please Check Yours
Comments (58)I'll keep the Miele temperature issue current for 2016. I have a Miele H4890BP2 (MasterChef 48" double oven) and have had it in operation for about 6 years. From the start it has *never* worked properly. Unfortunately, I assumed for the first 2 years that the temperatures were correct as shown on the display, and that the issues with baking were my fault. After putting good oven thermometers in both ovens, I realized that the oven temps were not at all what the ovens were displaying. After about 30 minutes to reach temperatures, the actual temperatures are always 25-50 degrees below the display temp (not to mention the "reached temp" alert beep occurs within 5 minutes. However, for the past year, only the bottom oven heats and maintains temperature. The top oven will heat to a maximum of 325-375 and within 15 minutes stops heating entirely. It shows no fault messages, and the display indicates that it is still attempting to heat...it just goes cold despite the display declaring that it is preheating. BTW, the Miele installer (who no longer sells Miele) did not set the voltage to the proper US setting--something I only knew to check after reading these boards! There is no Miele authorized service provider in my area and every other appliance repair people I've called all have refused to work on Miele ovens! I finally sent an Email to Miele about two weeks ago and have not gotten a response. It's incredibly disappointing to say the least to have paid this much for an appliance and it never work properly, and then be unable to find a local service provider. Especially horrifying is that Miele clearly must know that there was and is an issue with these ovens but have not been proactive and/or responsive to customers who own these ovens. This is not at all what I expected when doing business with Miele....See MorePSA - Please resize your photos so readers can help you!
Comments (21)Here's a link to the Test Forum, for anyone who wants to doodle away. Forgot about scrolling long links. Not only does it widen the entire thread, it also forces readers to copy and paste to view it, which a lot of us won't do either, ack! ;-) For anyone not familiar with alternatives, I'll post them, using Pottery Barn as an example. To put a live link in a post, there are two ways to do it: 1) When typing a post, instead of pasting the link right into the Message box (body) of the post, go to the boxes below the message box. Paste the web site's http://www.address.com in the box marked "Optional Link URL:". Then in the "Name of the Link:" box type in the name of the website. I just did that here so when you read my post you will see a link to Pottery Barn below and to the right of my message. It will say "Here is a link that might be useful:". ~OR~ 2) If you want to direct link right in the body of your post (like I did in Test Forum above) you can add html code. This method comes in handy when posting multiple links. Paste the link to your site (in this example Pottery Barn) right in your Message body: http://www.potterybarn.com/ You will need to add html code to the beginning and end of the link. You will also need to add the name of the site you're linking to (in this case 'Pottery Barn'). Add on html code is in bold below. So the string of text looks like this: a href="http://www.potterybarn.com/">Pottery Barn Important or it won't work: You have to wrap the entire string of text with angle brackets. So you must put a front angle bracket right at the beginning of that string of text directly in front of a href. You must put a rear angle bracket > right at the very end of the string of text, behind There are no spaces between the angle brackets and the other text. Think of the angle brackets as giving the entire string a tight hug! There is a single space between a href at the front. All other text in that line is typed with no spaces between it! So when I put that string together, spaced as noted, you should see an active link to Pottery Barn like this: Pottery Barn You can use that same string of commands for any web site. Just be sure the spacing is correct, substitute the name of your site where Pottery Barn is, and hug> that entire line tight with angle brackets! (cheesy I know, but might help you remember). Comments (7)Patricia - Thank you. "Features" is a highly subjective term and maybe no place moreso than in high end kitchen appliances. I could not care less about a single "program" in any device I've ever encountered in my kitchen. In fact, I think "programs" are generally a negative because they complicate the user interface and make it more difficult to understand what is happening (or has happened) to my food. My range will have them, too, but I'm not going to forego a range because I couldn't care less about "programs". My attraction to the speed oven is (1) size and therefore, presumably, faster preheat (I value my time and like to eat when I want to eat, so that reduced time is somewhat quantifiable "feature" to me) and (2) the double duty as a second conventional (albeit small) oven AND a microwave, giving me two functions in the same space - yielding a marked aesthetic improvement to the kitchen. If the thing was just an empty space that I could heat using either a conventional element with a simple dial to set the temperature, a microwave with just power settings and a timer, and/or both when I wanted, I'd be happy. What I'm trying to determine is whether I'm giving up any of those things by going with the low end Miele. It blows me away that the only difference to justify a $1,600 (41%) price difference would be some "programs". So I'm wondering if I'm giving up an actual heating element (or power in same) or the ability to simply control the oven. Miele, as seems to be par for the course in all high end kitchen appliances, makes it very difficult to get to the facts and just want to bullshit me with some special function that will simultaneously cook a baked potato, a steak, and a souffle, at altitude!...See MorePSA: Long lead times for high-end appliances + building materials
Comments (9)The backlog of consumer goods was the subject of the lead article in today's Wall Street Journal. Also contributing to the mess (besides enormous demand, Covid shutdowns all along the pipeline, and distribution bottlenecks): last month's deep freeze in the Oil Belt has made petrochemical products scarce: plastics, paints, fabrics are in short supply now. And this was new to me: low interest rates have turned everybody into a house flipper or wanting a house to buy for rental purposes. That means sprucing up the place to make it attractive to buyers/renters, and that means...more demand on appliances & home improvement products. Prices are going up: chips, copper, plastic, fabric, & of course lumber, shingles, siding. I'm in the process of buying an oven. I need to get on my salesperson to lock in my price now, even if I don't get the oven until autumn. That will eat into the one year warranty, but I was planning to purchase an extended warranty from the manufacturer anyway....See MoreRelated Professionals
