Success! Now its March 22 and I have buds. The first photo is of the whole tree-thing with old trunk, old branches and several buds. The second photo is of one of the several buds this trunk is putting out. ( This fig came up all by itself two years ago and took-off growing. )

Another winter has passed and I decided to cut down/kill what had become a monster last year. Apparently pruning it back only encouraged it to grow more. And hack I did... all summer. Whatever this type was, it wanted to be BIG. I don't have room for a Huge tree of any kind.

My grandson and I went out to saw the tree and found it rather loose in the soil, He dug and pushed and sawed huge roots until it finally lifted entirely from the ground. It had a massive in-ground stump. This photo is from the bottum up; the trunk is in the background.

That mass is about the size of my head, and that root to the left was as big around as my arm.

If anymore of that old orchard decides ro revive, it's getting chopped right away. At least now I know what to expect.

I do know it's nice to be able to walk around that area to tend the other plants. And I have three other figs of various varieties that behave themselves.
