Gaggenau steam oven with water tank vs Thermador steam oven
Comments (5)We are getting a Gaggenau steam oven because the Thermador chef at the builder show told us that if his house was on fire he would take his Gaggeneau steam oven with him. He was telling my husband that is it larger and he can start smoking his meats in his smoker for 4-5 hours and then finish in the steam oven. The Gaggenau is the largest one so my husband was sold. We are getting the Thermador convection oven (I know they don't match but Thermador doesn't give you credit for buying 2 ovens with them. I love that the Thermador convection oven also has a dehydrator with it too! We are doing Thermador induction stove top and then you get the dishwasher for free. I'm so excited for the induction stovetops (but we are plumbing for gas in case when we sell someone wants gas or when I get old and the pans are too heavy, I can switch to gas. I just hate having to take off the grills to clean underneath because I always have things spilling below the grill. It will be so nice to just wipe off and to be able to use the surface to serve on because it cools so quickly when you take away the pans....See MoreThermador gas v. Comments (12)A bench top microwave plus a combi steam oven suggestion sounds very good. I have the same set up, with a microwave being placed in a wall cupboard space on top of a steam combi oven. Since I have got steam combi oven installed, most food have been reheated in it, much nicer results compared with microwave which is just used to heat a cup of drink hear and there. Induction plus gas is also a very good solution. I have 15" dominos, two gases, and one bridgeable induction. I decided on two gas units because of round bottom wok cooking and never used an induction before. Now that I have been using induction for a while, I may have chosen two induction units instead if I have to decide again today. Bridge able induction unit is quite versatile. You can have two small to medium pots and pans on it, or one large pot or pan, even a cast iron griddle when used in bridge mode. With a wok ring adapter for induction hob, it even does wok cooking well enough. My dominos are installed with about 2-3" space between them, so that big pots and pans can go on them at the same time. This might be a consideration how you would like to place an induction unit next to a gas....See MoreCombi-Steam ovens: Wolf, Thermador, and Bosch
Comments (9)We tested both Miele and Wolf. Wolf was way easier to clean as well as set temperature, etc for use. The Miele had a better interface but a couple more steps and much harder to clean (grooves on bottom plus top broiler element). Thermador is way smaller capacity wise and the water tank is inside the oven so you'd need to open the door in case u run out of water (say for a thanksgiving turkey). Ultimately decided on Wolf. We didn't want a plumbed version....See MoreNew Thermador combi oven vs Miele vs Gaggenau
Comments (6)@NT_guy thanks! The floor model is the 1.6 cuf, the salesman told me that the new one is 2.1 cuf (as big as the xxl Miele) but I wasn't sure if it was already out or coming out. I am torn because of the same reasons you mentioned - self clean, hinge, and covered broiler! I checked with a friend who had the gaggenau for a couple of years, they used the self clean only once and they use it on a daily basis. They assume their cleaner wipes it from inside every now and then coz it looks really clean. that tells me that steam cooking is probably constantly melting splatter and you would rarely need the actual self clean with the cartridge, or in the case of Miele, wiping it with their product. So my biggest factor is less of an issue i guess. The hinge is awesome, but since that floor model is a right hinge, i feel it would be a bit inconvenient.. Any difference you felt between the two in terms of functionality and outcomes? Thanks!! Congrats for your new oven :)...See Morethekeller4
