Need help with exterior of 1950’s brick ranch

Any ideas for the ext of our 1950s ranch? We are open to painting, adding shutters, any anything really. The roof is slate and the doors are black with white storm doors.:

For safety purposes, trim any tree or bush that blocks any part of a window. I would use a warm color (tan) for the trim and garage doors. The current white and black is too cool a color for the warmth of the brick.

I agree, a cream trim would be better with the brick. If you like the shutters, keep them, but they are too small for the windows. I'd do the garage doors in natural.

That said, it's a lovely house and needs little to nothing to be the best it can be.

This was a great thread and detroitnate did a great job. If it were my house, before I did any planting I would have widened those steps and the walkway. Every picture in the series I focus on those tiny little steps and want to rip them out and redo. I've read that the main walkway leading up to a house should be wide enough for two people to comfortable walk side by side, that rule of thumb seems just about right to me. You want people to be invited into your house with the walkway, not forced into a single file line.

I would remove the shutters. (And you can’t add ones to the big window as they will not fit properly). Your storm is black, so paint the front door black. Would probably go with the color of the corner brick on the vertical siding and all the house trim, as well. The white is just too bright.

Wow thank you all for the awesome feedback! So far I think my favorite ideas are darker roof, darker shutters on just the two smaller windows (removing them on the picture window), stained garage door, staining our original door a bit darker, and maybe a portico style that has the open rafter look with a shallower peak (larger than a 90 degree angle). We definitely need a path to the driveway and not the street, as our subdivision has no sidewalks. I would love to see some landscaping ideas with more grasses and smaller shrubs, as I think anything too big swallows up the house. Thank you all again, these visuals and ideas are so helpful! Oh, and I would love to see the trim color a bit darker, maybe pulling a grey color from the stone-work. What do you all think?

Loving the suggestions and brainstorming. The thing that gets me is that concrete slab. I have considered extending the roof and making the concrete slab level to create a covered front porch, but there are some cons with that, one mostly being that the roof isn't even 2 years old yet and I hadn't considered that idea before I had it put on. Another con is that it will limit a lot of light to the bay window. Yet, I'm torn on other options. If I keep the concrete slab, I will either have it tiled or look into stamped concrete. There is a company in a nearby city that refinishes concrete in that manner. I realize though, what nickel_kg said, that unless I remove the concrete between the driveway and the landing or put an additional, curved walkway to the landing, that my home looks a bit unwelcoming. I definitely want to make the correct decisions now rather than spend more money later fixing what I should've done initially. 😣 Obviously I need to have a plan before committing to the beds.

Shutters do not get placed on bay windows so I have removed them. That leaves you with only one window for shutters so I have taken them off that window also.

If you want the trim white select a white that is not as creamy as your current trim and not as stark as the windows and garage door.

You need an updated landscaping plan.

These brick exteriors are beautiful and sophisticated and homey, all at the same time. I'd choose the last one - the slate gray - because it's the softest look but has contrast, also.

Definitely remove the shutters. Never on a bay window. Beverly's last example is great...love the Labradorite with the brick!

Remove the grilles from the garage door windows. Having the Lanscaping shaped up will help
