Mystery rose from Rogue valley
Comments (3)I got one that was a striped OGR that died, and one that turned out to be Distant Drums. And I'm watching a third one now, which has not bloomed yet. And I got a split stem that is healthy now that was labeled Cl. La and then the rest of the tag was too faded to read. That one turned out to be Climbing La France, which is probably not something I would ever have ordered, but I really like it now. I think these mystery roses are almost more fun than the ones I order for real. Kathy...See MoreRose order for Spring-Rogue Valley or Pickering
Comments (8)I have found Pickering to be a very dependable supplier of good quality bareroot roses on their multiflora rootstock and wouldn't hesitate to buy from them anytime. Palatine however has turned out to send me the best bareroot roses on multiflora that I have ever seen. They are superspectacular deluxe and well worth the cost of the rose and the shipping which is a little bit higher than most. The quality they send makes it all worthwhile. Another good multiflora supplier is the budded maidens sold my Steve Singer at Wisconsin Roses--WIROSES.COM . They are super vigorous and by the fall of their first year you can not tell one of the budded maidens from a bareroot and the budded maidens are much easier to plant and tend to than the traditional bareroot rose. I have about 75 of Steve's roses and recommend them highly. John...See MoreWeird begging email from Rogue Valley Roses
Comments (15)It begins, "I'm writing this with tears in my eyes," right? It is indeed a well known scam. I had received the same message a couple of years ago, not ostensibly from Rogue, but from a dear friend in her 80s. I was sent it again last year. Obviously, it must work on some people--and of course if the message goes out to thousands of people at a time, it doesn't take a very good batting average to be successful. Who would be the most likely to respond to an urgent plea from someone in need? In general, mature women. We can be gullible (who else would believe the plant label that says "never needs staking?!). But gullible isn't so far a stretch beyond empathetic. What makes people decent human beings also makes them targets for these scams. There is a very good web site where you can check out all sorts of hooey that gets circulated on the web--the Urban Legends Reference Pages, aka Snopes. If the scam/rumor/fish story is one they haven't heard of, you can also submit it to them for investigation. Comments (12)Erasmus, if your rose is a small own-root I suppose it might not look totally true with the first few blooms. I know some of my little own-roots I got from Cliff a few yrs ago did not bloom true til the plants got bigger. But your bloom doesn't have the ruffled form, and the pointy tips on the petal edges are not typical of BB. Hopefully in the subsequent bloomings if it is BB, it will start looking more like it. I guess it'll just be a waiting game....See Moreodyssey3
